Applying for first time passport and keeping my old passport

Post by eu_applicant » Wed Mar 20, 2019 7:26 pm

Hello, I have attended my citizenship ceremony last week and I want to apply for a passport now, however I need my current passport for travelling. Is there a way to apply for my british passport where I don't need to give out my current passport for weeks?

Unfortunately not - original of certificate and passport(s) are required. Processing times can be as short as 10 work days but we are nearing the holiday season so times will increase.

Do you suggest waiting for the holidays to get over or rush it now? I don't really mind having a passport soon, I am only interested in giving away my passport for as little time as possible.

Depends on how long you can live without it/whether you're planning to travel any time soon. If not, you could apply. Based on my recent application, it will probably take about 2 weeks.
