Critical Skills List & GNIB Card

Post by inzidz » Thu Apr 11, 2019 3:04 pm

Hi all,

I am getting sponsored at work and I need some help with two areas.

1. The application form is asking what my GNIB permit pin is - I have the new IRP card and there seems to be two numbers on my card. one is on the front of the card which is 8 characters long and the other is on the back which says 'Registration No.' and its 6 characters long - I assume its the Registration No. I am after but I wanted to make sure I was correct.

2. I am an E-Commerce Executive in the Marketing team. I look after the website, do small development jobs to help bring in leads where the sales reps can phone and try convert these into customers.

In peoples opinions on the list - https://dbei.gov.ie/en/What-We-Do/Workp ... ions-List/ would my application go under the 213 or the 354?

213 is Web / ICT Professionals - 2137 - Web design and development professionals or 2139 - All other ICT professionals not elsewhere classified

Then 354 is Sales, Marketing and Related Associate Professionals - 3543 - International marketing experts with required domain knowledge specialising in product strategy development and management with technical and product/service knowledge (pharmaceutical, medical devices, Software B2B, SaaS products)

My gut feeling on both of these points is 1. its the registration no i want to use and 2. number 213 & the sub number is 2139

When we say GNIB / IRP number we normally refer to the 6 digit registration number. I have never ever used any other numbers in any of the except for this 6 digit number.

I don't know anything about "permit pin" though.

Regarding the job title, one major difference between ICT Professionals and Sales/Marketing is that most of the ICT Professionals' work will be under "ICT research and development", which is tax exempt for the business, while any sales/marketing work is not.

Therefore, you need to think what your typical work day will be like. If your job mainly includes doing development work for your company's *product*, that is ICT work. If your job is to do development work for your company's *website * and design marketing tools etc, this is not ICT work.

It won't make too much of a difference for you, but do remember that if your company gets audited, they will ask executives to produce a list of tax exemption claimed and the persons who mostly work on tax exempted work.
