Temporary work for US citizen

Post by Tomobrien » Sat Apr 13, 2019 2:03 pm

I am an american citizen who has been offered a job to work in England for the summer. The job is working for EF as an activity leader who will be taking foreign students, who come to learn English, to activities during the time they are not at school. I am 21 and currently a full time student but am graduating from an American university in May. I would be working for 1-2 month in England. Could anyone please advice me on which visa I would need to be able to do this?

EF will have to Sponsor you into the UK. They will have to issue you a certificate of sponsorship for you to apply for a visa.
There is no route where you as an individual can gain a visa to work for a couple of months.

Sponsorship leads to a visa, you need a CoS, then you apply for a visa.
Has EF discussed how you get to undertake your role in the UK?

EF didn’t know which visa or what documents I would need so they asked me to look into it and let them know. After the certificate of sponsorship, which visa would it be?

If EF have not got a clue then they probably do not have Sponsorship licence so they are unable to sponsor you. Therefore you do not have a route to work in the UK for EF.

Can I council you not to attempt to enter on a visitor visa gained at the point of entry to the UK. If it is discovered you are working / volunteering in the UK you will be on the next flight home. It is just not worth the risk.

There are organisations that will issue a Tier 5 Charity Worker visa for this type of work but EF would have to have an agreement with them to do so.

Have they not brought people to do this in the UK before?

It’s not a volunteer job. The job is a paid position working with and taking foreign students on activities who Are part of a course that helps them learn English

Paid position - whole different ball game. Your would need a work visa - expensive and not practical at all for a short stay,
Only the company that is employing you can Sponsor you. So that is a dead end to start with.

Sorry I thought you were volunteering because you posted in Tier 5 forum. Tier 5 covers off charity work etc...

It is, but only to work for an employer that has a license to sponsor such visas.
I do not give immigration advice. I refer you to Immigration Rules, guidance, other online content and to your sponsor.
