First UK passport application. Unclear what documents they want?

Post by skyscraper101 » Wed May 08, 2019 10:03 am

Why is nothing ever clear from the UK Immigration authorities.

My Brazilian wife is applying for her first British passport since becoming a naturalized British Citizen. Can anybody clarify what precisely the passport office are asking for here. They're asking for 3 things.

1. Naturalisation or registration certificate - OK

2. The passport used to enter the UK - Which one? She's used 2 (now expired) ones to enter the UK at various times. Do they mean to first enter the UK? in which case it would be the oldest expired one. Or to last enter the UK? In which case it would be the second. Or do they mean the one which would be currently used to enter the UK - in which case it would be the last - although that has never been used. So which one are they asking for?

3. Any passports from other countries that haven’t expired - other to which country? The UK? Brazil? Typically it's not clear.

I know the easiest solution might be 'just send them all' - but if the current unused Brazilian one isn't required - and the point is, it's unclear if it is required - then it seems superfluous to send it and be without any means to travel for the next few weeks.

Thanks in advance.

You have to only submit the current foreign passport. Any expired passport that she used to enter the UK does not need to be submitted.

She will be without a travel document during this duration so I won't make any travel plans.

This is for people with more than one nationality.

Thanks. Although would you agree the language they use is ambiguous. It says 'used to enter the UK' - but the current passport has never been 'used' in any capacity to enter the UK.

True man, the whole process uses confusing language, atleast now you are at the final step!

It should be a cause for celebration, but the whole process from beginning to end has been an exhausting, money-draining exercise from this government in making life as difficult as possible for two married people to live together if one of them happens to be from outside the EU. After all these years and expenses, we can not even afford to keep a pet for company now. Let alone have children.

The fact they take all this money, and then can't even make it clear in plain English on a simple passport application form - what you need to send in, is so utterly symbolic of the whole system.
