Decision from INIS for Irish spouse more than 6 months

Post by Subziro » Wed Apr 10, 2019 1:34 am

Hi everyone,

Me and my wife(Irish citizen) applied for stamp 4 decision from INIS more than 6 months ago (since October 2018) and until now did not hear anything from them, I only received a letter at the start that they received my application and gave back the passports.
When I applied it was on their website/application form that application from with irish citizen will take maximum 6 months, until now I did not hear anything from them, they did not give a temporary stamp 4 or anything. :(
In my application I sent all the documents needed and more, it is more than 6 months now and nothing at all from them.

Please if someone experienced this before or have an idea about this subject let me know.

Kind regards :D

Hiya,

Are you yourself from the EU?
If so then you should have gotten a temporary stamp.

Hi,

No I am from a non eu country, EU citizens do not need any stamp to live and work in Ireland.
Are you experiencing the same thing?

Myself and my husband have applied using the spouse of an Irish national application form.

Was this the application that you used?

We are currently waiting 9 months with no temporary stamp.

Are you from a visa required country?

Hi,

Yes I used the same form you used so we are in the same situation. Did you try to contact them or did you go to a solicitor? Its meant to take 6 months for irish spouse.
Yes I am from a visa required country been in the house for nearly 7 months not able to do anything.
Any idea how to check the application or how to accelerate it?

unfortunately the waiting time is over 12 months now.

Somebody on here said it took them 17 months to get theirs. :(
I'm hoping mine doesn't take that long.

I didn't bother using a solicitor as i don't think they can do much to speed up the process.

I think the only thing you can do is wait which is so frustrating.

I've tried reaching out to INIS to get updates but they aren't very helpful - most of the time they won't reply.

Hi,

Thank you gor sharing your case, that sounds so bad 17 months :( I was hoping to sort mine by maximum may as it will be 9months, I may try to get legal aid and try to go against them I have proof that they said it is 6months for irish spouse.
I hope to get a temp stamp 4 even is so weird seems like they do not care about peoples life.

Nothing new on my end either - I tried to get in contact with INIS but they don’t say what month of applications they are currently processing..

Did you end up speaking with a solicitor?

I contacted the immigration council and they said that a solicitor won't help at all so I didn't bother.
It is crazy that they don't care about people's lives, they don't care.
I do not think that it could take more than 12 months, thats what I have on my letter that I got back. (Up to 12 months)
Hopefully will hear something soon.

Yeah I’ve heard something similar - I don’t think a solicitor has the power to make the process go by any faster. I’m nearly waiting 11 months so hopefully we get a letter any day now....

Hi Guys,

Myself and my wife are in the same boat. I am an Irish citizen and She is a non Eu citizen. We made the same application in November 2018 and have also only received the acknowledgement letter.

I did however request that one of the local TD's follow up on the application. They didn't give much of an update except that they were processing applications from February 2018

Just thought id let you guys know. Hopefully we aren't left waiting much longer.

Hiya,

Thank you so much for the information!
I’m pretty surprised they are only processing February 2018 at this point..

Assuming it takes them a month to process all applications in that time then I should expect a letter in 5 months time asking me to resubmit my documentation - tag another couple months onto that and I get the final letter roughly January 2020 - then getting an appointment at GNIB could take a month so then it’s February 2020 until we finally have this sorted.

My god.

Such timeline is disappointingly disgraceful, i do believe the department must find a way of upping its game.

Hi,

When did they inform you that they are processing applications from Feb 2018?
It is really unfair on coupels this waiting time, and the problem no one is saying anything. Like you can't do anything but wait 2 years to finally get the stamp.
I am surprised also shocked when I red that spouse of other EU countries gets temp stams so they can do all what they want until they decide, but for Irosh is so strict how this is meant to be fair. 🤔

Thank you for this information. I'm in the exact same boat, application in based on marriage to citizen and 4 years of Irish residency. Have heard apocryphal stories of this taking 5+ years in some cases.

It's "only" been 2 months since I sent in the application and I've yet to get any acknowledgement or my passport back, it seems like this part of the process is taking 2+ months since about March. I should've applied in January.

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone else gotten updates on their applications?

I have gotten in touch with my local TD and will be requesting an update on my application.
Hopefully they are a good bit further along than February 2018 now.

I'm at 13.5 months now, they said six months when I applied also, I'e been married for 13 years and living in Ireland 25 years this month, but then again someone else (on the 2018 timeline thread) said they applied late 2018 and got thru for the June ceremony, so /shrug

I think you’ve gotten mixed up. This thread is referring to application for people spouse to remain in the country and receive a stamp 4. Otho k you are referring to the citizenship application process which is a separate thread. :-)

Best of luck with your application.
