Lost BRP but found

Post by smchen1113 » Tue May 07, 2019 9:30 am

Hi everyone, long story short, I found my lost BRP after applying online for a new one. I’ve filled the form and done my payment for the application online, but haven’t attended the appointment to provide my documents. I haven’t reported the loss to police either. I was just wondering if I can still use the old one or it’s been cancelled? Thank you.

The application for a new BRP will normally automatically trigger cancellation of the old one.

You can ask the international student adviser at your university if they can speak with their contact at the Home Office on your behalf. It might be possible to cancel the replacement BRP application, and to reinstate the old one, but I doubt it.

Do post here again when you have tried this. It would be useful to know if it is possible.

Hi everyone,

I just got back from Barcelona via Stansted with my old BRP. As sah10406 said, the old BRP was automatic cancelled once I submitted the replacement online. The customs officer took my old BRP and asked me to complete the whole process of BRP replacement. Conclusion: I can still get back with my old BRP. Wish this post can help someone!

I am confused. Given that you say you applied online for the replacement single-use BRP visa, didn't you show that on entry?

What I've submitted online is the application for BRP replacement, but not single-use visa, and I didn't complete the whole process to get a new BRP due to lack of time. I entered UK with my lost and found BRP, and the officer took it , asked me to apply for a new one, and let me pass.

According to the GOV.UK website, if you're in UK, you can only apply for a BRP replacement, but not BRP replacement visa. I did try to apply the single-use visa via www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk. After filling a incredibly long form, I found out that I can only attend the appointment in my own country (Taiwan).

To the conclusion, if you lost your BRP card and found it after submission of a replacement online, the old BRP was cancelled automatically (no matter if you completed the whole process or not). But it's still possible to enter UK with your lost and found BRP.

Something went wrong somewhere because that is definitely not so. Indeed the whole point of the single use BRP visa is that you apply for it in the country where you have lost your BRP, so you can get back to the UK. It's a very common type of application because BRPs are often lost or stolen when students are travelling in Europe. The form is very basic, not "incredibly long", so I think you may have completed the wrong form -- or perhaps it was the correct form but you accidentally said you are currently in Taiwan.

Either way, that's good that you were able to re-enter the UK with the found BRP. It could have gone very differently. An uncooperative BFO could have sent you back to Barcelona to do the single-use BRP visa application, so that's a relief that they did not.

Hello I’m having a current nightmare.

My BRP was lost and found. But I have reported it as lost and it is now cancelled.

Is this the same scenario that’s happened to you please?

Did the officer let you straight through or were you quarantined and interrogated?

The officer filled a form and I signed it. No quarantine or interrogation. Maybe I’m lucky.

Do they not check if BRP valid or not in Barcelona airport?
