Half time Job Secondment within same department

Post by UKLL » Sat Jun 08, 2019 6:59 pm

Hello,

I was wondering if the following is allowed under Tier 2:

I am currently working as a full time (37.5 hours) NHS Band 6 Physiotherapist. There is a secondment opportunity that comes up in the Department for a part-time (18.75hours) Band 7 Physiotherapist. My manager has said that if successful then it means working and getting paid 18.75 hours as a band 6 Physiotherapist, 18.75 hours as a band 7 Physiotherapist. Therefore total hours are still 37.5 hours, and job code remains the same with the same employer. However it's essentially like 2 different jobs (duties are the same, just different specialist areas).

Is this allowed under Tier 2?

Thanks everyone.

As long as the SOC code and duties remain the same this is not an issue. It is treated as if it were a promotion within the same role. Your circumstances are a little strange but it is not a problem.

Thank you :) I was hoping that you could reply me lol

My main concern is that as they are two jobs, it will be two separate payslips via PAYE. One for Band 6 Physio 18.75 hours and another one for Band 7 Physio 18.75 hours. If HO reviews this they will see two different jobs with one job not meeting the original salary threshold (obviously if combined both they way exceed) Would HO say "not allowed" because of this?

I understand the promotion part, but just "half of the job promoted / seconded" , leaving me a bit unsure.

Try to read Tier 2 Guidance yesterday and couldn't get an answer.

Are you working for the same NHS trust for both roles? Then although a strange circumstance there is nothing in the guidance that prevents this. It is the combination of the salaries from the same Sponsor that counts towards the stated COS salary.

Hey,

Yes same NHS trust and same Department. One band 6 job for medical patients, one band 7 secondment 18.75 hours per week for cancer patients. Same profession (physiotherapist), same job code, same core duties although the band 7 involves a bit of management and development duties.

It's good to know that the salaries can be a combination from the same trust.

I suppose the Trust HR needs to update HO about the change? Thank you!!!!
