New tier 2 - could be affected by unpaid council tax?

Post by Aaronka » Sun Jun 09, 2019 12:20 pm

Hello everyone. I’m about to apply for a new tier 2 since I’m changing jobs from withi the uk.

I’ve got an u paid council about which I’ve found out via a rather threatening letter from the collectors (I.e. were coming to seize your property and we’ve added 600 pounds of our fees for what was a 40 pound debt).

I tried calling them a couple of times and left a voicemail with my phone number - no response.

The question is - could this affect my upcoming tier 2 application?

If I actually manage to get in touch with collectors - should I request some sort of proof of payment from them that could specifically aid the application?

Thank you

It will no5 have an impact on your tier 2 application.

As for the debt - talk to the council not the debt collection agency. The council has to follow a whole schedule of processes before they can enforce a debt. Pay the outstanding amount to the council- debt gone

Thank you for your comment!
Could you please elaborate on your source?

Btw, I've spoken to council, they already gone through the procedures you mentioned and said I should deal with the collection agency.

Can’t verify a negative - debt is a civil matter nor a criminal matter. You do need to check if you have a ccj tho.

btw, I checked via a government website whether there is CCJ against my name or former or current addresses - and there is nothing. The debt collectors claim they've got it against me though.. I'm really perplexed as per what to do.
