FLR English Test Query

Post by shabs100 » Mon Jun 17, 2019 11:35 am

Hi Guys,

My wife is on the 10 year FLR (FP) application route since 2012 and we have continuously been renewing her visa every 3 years as required by the home office over the last 7 years.

Her visa is due to expire next month and we are preparing the penultimate application (hopefully) before we hit the 10 year mark and she can apply for ILR in the next application.

As per the requirements of the FLR application process, we have been submitting a SELT A2 certificate.

However, since we will be applying for the ILR next time and the ILR requires a SELT B2 Certificate, should we just take the SELT B2 now to save us having to to the exam again in 3 years? Does the B2 have an expiry and can it be used for the ILR (even if expired)?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Kind Regards,
Shahbaz

I think you require B1 and Life in the UK to qualify for ILR.

Thanks for your response.

Yes I understand that B1 and LIUK are required for ILR, but we will not be applying for this until 2022.

My question is if we get the B1 now for the FLR (instead of A2), will it still remain valid for the ILR or do we need to take it again in 2022?

Kind Regards,
Shahbaz

As far as I am aware it will remain vaild and a lot of people doing it because it will save money and time for doing two exams.

Okay good to know. We will then take the B1 instead of the A2.

Year 2022 is bit far. Why not continue practicing to English language and book & pass the test just before applying ILR because if you won't use that test now which will expire in 2 years time. So you will have to redo it because it wasn't used in previous grant of visa.

To be honest, we are trying to save ourselves £150 by doing the test just once. I read somewhere that if I take the B1 test now, it doesn't expire after 2 years like the A2.

If this is true, then I would rather just take the B1 now as it will save doing the english test later and we can concentrate on the life in the uk. I just needed confirmation of this and Sunoo has provided that.

I think what you aren't known is that all ielts tests carry 2 years of expiry and if that test was previously accepted in the grant of visa then even its being expired then will still be accepted in future if the test remain on HO list. But in your case as you don't need any test for your current type of visa, therefore, when it will expired in 2 years time then it won't be accepted. Best to continue practicing English language and LIUK test. Instead you can even do LIUK test which definitely won't expire. Rest is your choice.

Ok thanks for your response.

So to be clear, you are saying that even if we take the B1 test now, it won't remain valid when we apply for the ILR in 2.5 years? So we have to take the english test again in 2.5 years time?

Shahbaz

Expired tests can be used if it was used in a previous application AND the test and test provider is still on his approved list.

As stated earlier that expired test will still be accepted only if it was previously accepted in the grant of visa. In ops case he don't need any English test because on flr fp route. An expired test which wasn't used or wasn't needed in the previous grant of visa won't be accepted.

Hi,

what do you mean by there is no requirement for english test for FLR(FP)? According to the FLR(FP) application form, I need to submit a minimum A2 Certificate.

Can you please elaborate?

Thanks,
Shahbaz

So If instead of the A2 I take the B2 now (to submit with the FLR(FP)), I can reuse the same certificate when I make the ILR application in 2.5 years time?

Please confirm.

Shahbaz

There is no need of English test & financial requirement for flr fp route despite online form mistakenly asking that.

For clarity, it is only irrelevant and not applicable to the 10 year FLRF(FP) route.

Oh wow! I had no idea.

So since we are on the 10 year route (year 7.5/10), we don't need to take the English test.

I will therefore go ahead and submit the application without any English test certificate.

Many thanks all.

Shahbaz

Does this apply to the FLR(M) also?

No. FLR(M) must meet the English and financial requirement.
