Passport renewal for Tier-2 visa extension

Hi All,

My Tier-2 General visa is expiring in October 2019. My employer is happy to give me a 3 year CoS, which can cover the time after which I can apply for ILR. However, my Indian Passport is expiring in 2.5 years. I have 2 questions:
1. I believe, I need to extend my passport before applying for visa to get it for 3 years. Please correct me if I am wrong.
2. Is it possible to renew my passport before applying for CoS and Visa as it is still valid till March 2020?

1. No you don't. You need a valid passport at the time of applying. There is no requirement that it must be valid for X number of years.

2. Simply renew your passport when it is due.
