EU citizen and settlement scheme

Post by Pingle » Tue Jun 18, 2019 9:36 am

Hello.
My question is about an EU national that wants to live and work permanently in the UK and the October deadline.
Do they HAVE to reside in the UK before the end of October, or is there a transitional period where they can enter the UK after October whilst still being able to apply for pre settled status ?
Thank you.

The Settlement Scheme essentially makes provision for people already in the UK under EU law.

The EU citizen therefore needs to be resident in the UK before EU law as regards freedom of movement comes to an end. That would be either 31st October (if no deal and no extension) OR the date of any future extension OR 31st December 2020 (if May's Deal is agreed to).

Hello.

Thank you for replying ( and my other) post.

Yes, that information is similar to what I managed to glean from the web, and I have square eyes to prove it !

We are trying to sell our home and the October deadline is getting so close now.
That and the fact that no one knows what might actually be happening it is a huge risk to sit it out.

Don't s'pose you know what will happen in October do you ? :?:

Many thanks.

EU nat moving to UK - self employed

Post by Pingle » Fri Jun 21, 2019 6:03 am

Hello.
I have an enquiry about a EU national who is planning to move to the UK (with daughter) and start her own business.
What does she need to do to be legal ?
Obviously she needs to be in the country before 31 October to be able to apply for pre settled status.
I have read that she needs to be in the country before being able to ask for a NI number, and will need proof of address for a bank account.
But how does she actually start up her business from a legal point of view.
Many thanks.

Hello.
Ok, sorry, I didn’t realise that.
I thought because it was a different topic that I had to make a new one.
My apologies.
