Apply Provisional License on Spouse Visa

Post by imran321 » Fri Aug 03, 2018 2:15 pm

Hi,

My wife entered UK last week on her spouse visa. Can I apply for her provisional driving license? Because on the form it states something about the invidual being a resident in UK for 180 days? But with her having the 2.5 years spouse visa, am I still good to apply this for her now even though she’s been in the UK for a week now?

Thanks!

It means she must have been in the UK for at least 180 days before she can apply. The length of visa is irrelevant.

Does this mean I have to wait 180 days till she can apply for her provisional license?

That’s frustrating... 😏

You can apply. My husband recently arrived in the U.K. on spouse visa and we apply for provisional and he got it. The 180 day rule it means will she be living in the U.K. for 180 days or more the answer is yes as she is on a spouse visa. So u can apply if you fill the form and apply online it’s £34 then Dvla will write to you and requesting identification you can send her BRP with 1 passport size picture you don’t need the picture or anyone to sign the form as you will be sending the BRP as identification. Use special delivery when sending Identification. It takes about 2 weeks to get the licence.

Hi,

Thanks San!! I have actually applied for her driving licence in the meantime and i did it online and received DVLA's letter today, to send proof of ID and a photo.

But what I wanted to ask you was, do I need to send a pre-stamped envelope to have the BRP card sent back to me? Or do they send it back in their own special post?

Thanks :)

Hi,
I have applied online for the provisional license of husband too.
I will received the form by post, and then I will have to attach the passeport to it, can someone please tell me how much time will the DVLA hold my husband passport?
Thanks

The application form will advise what documents to send. Probably BRP & 1 x passport photo.

My Spouse received driving licence within 3 weeks of application, and it was sent via Royal Mail 2nd class standard. Supporting documents were returned 2 days after licence arrived.

If you send first class recorded, depending on ur circumstances, you may receive sooner.
