FLR: Do you have to upload and take documents to the appointment?

Post by notarobot » Tue Jul 02, 2019 4:32 pm

I phoned UKVI and asked this question but they didn't know. They don't seem to be able to answer much at all.

My wife is applying for a FLR extension (based on spouse) and we have uploaded the documents to the Sopra Steria website prior to the biometric appointment. But it's unclear whether in addition you have to take any documents with you to the appointment, such as the consent forms or financial declaration. Is there an official line on this?

Thank you in advance.

Why not you take all documents with you to the appointment so that if some document will be missing then you can straightaway request them to upload.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

That's what I was thinking but it is a hell of a lot of printing. And that kind of defeats the object of the new modern approach to scanning documents rather than wasting trees by printing endless pages of passports and copies of utility bills and bank statements, etc.

But you're right. Part of me does not trust the system. I have read a few accounts of people applying for visas and being refused on the basis that they have not provided certain documents, yet they swear they did provide them through the upload system.

I am wondering what others have done in this regard?

The new scanning system is not about savings trees. It's about applicants not having to sit without their original documents for long periods.

So there is no need to take the originals to the appointment then?

Obviously, seeing as I replied to it extensively. Are you always this friendly?

So...

Is it a requirement to take the originals along to the appointment in addition to having already uploaded the documents?

Do they take the originals from you at the appointment?

Is it just a general best practice to print out all the documentation and take it along too?

Is there any official statement from UKVI regarding this?

Is this what other people have done?

I'd really appreciate any polite and helpful answers.

Thank you.

I applied and scanned the documents on the Sopra site etc etc..

I also took the documents with me everything I had because I didn't know if I had to or not.

The person who was handling our appointment said that I didn't need any documentation apart from the appointment letter it asks you to bring, as I SCANNED it all it was fine.

However, in saying this I would take the documents regardless, if I had to do this again because if there was any problems I have the documents with me.

Can depend on where your appointment is.

The Core centres do not check or upload documents unless you buy as an add on.

The enhanced centre charge for appointments but check all your documents and upload them also, so if you have paper copies take them with you.

Hope that helps.
