Indian Passport British citizen problem

Post by mican » Fri Aug 02, 2019 6:20 pm

Hello,

Once an Indian passport is surrendered is the passport returned along with the surrender certificate.

Problem is below.

When my wife got her Indian passport there was an error with the spelling of her middle name. The India Passport office made an manual correction on a separate page and stamped it.

When we applied for a British passport they highlighted the mispelled name on her Indian passport and said they couldn't process her application as her name on her application form and Indian passport didn't match. She suggested she get the name changed on her Indian passport. I do not think this will be possible as she is legally a British citizen.

From reading online it seems she will need to surrender her passport but will the embassy return her passport as this has proof of when and on what basis she entered the UK.

Can anyone give any advice, we are both very confused.

Yes, Indian consulate or High commission will return your passport by stamping it cancelled and perhaps a tiny punch hole to it.
