Is short-term-study visa Tier 4 w.r.t. required maintenance funds?

Post by Syneil » Sun Aug 11, 2019 7:05 am

I am trying to assist my friend arrange themselves for a short-term-study visa application.

We are unclear from the GOV.UK space (https://www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigra ... dent-visas) if this visa counts as Tier-4 and if it has the same requirements detailed in https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... _2019_.pdf about already having £1,015 per month of visit for maintenance.

The Eligibility page (https://www.gov.uk/study-visit-visa/eligibility) also says they (you) must "have enough money to support yourself without working or help from public funds, or that relatives and friends can support and house you", that latter clause being the preferred approach, but there is nothing in the T4 Migrant Guidance (already linked, above) about "friends".

So my questions, please, are:
1. Does my friend need £1,015 per month for their visit, or can they include the support of their friends?
2. If the latter, how would they provide evidence of that for their visa application?

Thank you

For some reason your friend is conflating and confusing the requirements for a Short-term study visa with the separate and different requirements for a Tier 4 General student visa.

If your friend is not clear about the requirements for his short-term study visa from the information at gov.uk, you can refer him to the more detailed guidance from the UK Council for International Student Affairs:

https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/Information-- ... udent-visa

If he still needs individual one-to-one advice on his application, I do not recommend that you take on this role, as you appear to have possibly caused more confusion. He can speak to the college or university where they will be studying.
I do not give immigration advice. I refer you to Immigration Rules, guidance, other online content and to your sponsor.
