Things I have learnt from this whole experience of mine :

1.If you haven’t received any sms or an email confirmation for passport collection/dispatch, despite of opting for the service, chances are that VFS has not received your passport from the embassy. It would be a waste of time, for you to travel from far, just to check on it (they can absolutely do nothing to help you, if they haven’t received it and they wouldn’t care less for that ticket you have booked for your travel and your joining date).

2.You wouldn’t sometimes receive an email confirmation for decision being made/ received at Sheffield, but it doesn’t matter, if you had applied for a standard visa, call the UKVI/ email them after 12th or 13th working day and they will let you know the status.

3.A standard visa will absolutely take 15 working days, no matter what, to receive it, don’t expect it to come any earlier.

The above conclusions are simply my understanding of how the system works, specifically for applications at chennai, India at the moment.

1. Category applying under T2 General - Priority, PBS Dependant visa - spouse and 2 kids - Priority
2. Country of application: Bahrain
3. City of Visa Application: Manama
4. Date of application: 28/08/2019
5. Date of submission of documents 28/08/2019 in VFS
6. Received an email from Sheffield office saying they are preparing my file for consideration by an Entry Clearance Officer: 29/08/2019
7 Received an email that the decision of my application is made: 11/09/19 but only for my dependants and not me (the main applicant)
8. Date Entry Clearance valid from: 12/10/2019
9. Duration for Entry Clearance: 30 days
10 Date passport received: 11/09/2019 for my dependants

I sent an enquiry to UKVI through their webform on 16/09/2019 and received the below response:

Thank you for contacting UK Visas and Immigration International Contact Centre.

With regards to your enquiry about the status of your application, I can confirm that we have received your application and it is currently with our case working team. We will contact you if we need any further information.

If it has been over 15 working days for non- settlement applications or 60 working days for settlement applications, please provide the following details:

Full Name
Date of Birth
GWF number
IHS number
Passport number
Place of submission
Type of Visa applied for
Date of biometrics
Nationality
E-mail address used on application:

We strongly recommend that you do not buy a non-refundable, non-flexible ticket to the UK, until your visa application has been approved and you have received your documents.

This email doesn't convey much and asks for the same information that I already provided in the webform. It's quite bizarre that they would approve my family's visas and still hold the main applicant's.

I hope to have good news today.

Fingers crossed!

Decision made- No email. Called Ukgov on 30th, they said decision has been made n refused to disclose date of decision .

Passport collection sms- 30th.

Visa approved!!! After 1 rejection due to IELTS without UKVI.

Lessons learnt-
1. Read all guidance very thoroughly.
2. Apply very well in advance to enjoy you success.
3. Apply priority. 20k INR is not worth the apprehension.
4. Apply priority even if there is rejection history.

#A note especially for my nursing friends#

Overall, my experience was really appreciable with the whole Visa application process. I received my my Non-Priority Visa on 8th working day although it was a Saturday. I would like to tell you'all that whoever is trying to apply for visa, please submit all the required documents accurately (including your Passport, Offer letter, CoS, Decision letter, PCC, TB test result, Nursing registration certificates of your place of practise, results of OET/IELTS, CBT, UKVI IELTS/NARIC (if applicable) and other applicable documents). Please take a print of your Registration confirmation, Checklist, Visa application(not mandatory). Please consider the working days of your country which would not include public holidays and weekends although you may receive your visa on a weekend (Saturday) as the courier services may be functional. You may expect to receive your passport via courier the very next day after you receive a mail stating that your visa has been processed. If not in a hurry you will get your Visa in the desired time frame even by applying for a Standard one which may take less than 15 working days if your applying in an off season period with all the appropriate documents. Also, you need to preserve the letter which you receive along with Visa and collect BRP from your sponsor or post office (as stated by you in the application) before the Vignette (visa sticker) expires. Pl.be patient and wish you'all all the best for your future endeavours.
