Does my son need to apply citizenship before applying passport?

Post by 917700 » Mon Sep 16, 2019 10:20 am

Hi

My son was born in 2017 in UK. Both myself and my wife had Tier 1 visa in 2017, so my son has our country nationality.

My wife received her settlement last month, so we are preparing to apply British passport for our son. I am just wondering do i need to apply citizenship for my son first?

Many thanks

He does not qualify for a British passport as he is not a British citizen.

Yes, you have to register him as British first on form MN1, costs £1012. You can only apply for a passport once the registration is approved and you have received the certificate of registration.
