Indefinite Leave to Remain for Wife

Hello everyone

Around mid January 2020 my wife would have been living in the UK for 5 years, this means we can apply for her Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).

I already meet the financial requirements and I have many letters and photos to prove that we've been living together these past 5 years.

I have a question with regards to the English Language requirements. When wife got her spouse visa, she was required to do some English language test. The certificate she has is this one.

Does that certificate mean she meets that Language Requirement?

I know that she has to pass the Life In the UK test. She is currently studying for that, I am just not sure about the language requirement and hope someone can shed some light on this for us.

She can't use the test. She needs a minimum B1 level English test from a test provider in the current HO list, ie IELTS SELT or IELTS Trinity

Ouch, OK thank you CR001. That's another thing she'll have to study for.

No studying required. It is literally a 10/15 minute speaking/listening test. Costs £150 though.

I checked their list, the closest test centre to us is this one.

I don't know what IELTS stands for and I don't know what they mean by all facets.

I can call the test centre to book, but what do I ask of the operator? I feel like the receptions wouldn't know what I'm talking about if I say I want to book a test for my wife for IELTS test?

Actually, I've just seen that there's a centre in Leeds. That's even closer for us. But they do ISE and GESE. What do those acronyms stand for?

Not sure what the acronyms stand for but make sure it is an approved test at B1 level at an approved test centre per list below.

Thanks, yep the test is listed as an approved test. I found out that ISE means Integrated Skills in English. They do it at the Leeds centre, so we'll apply there. Thank you.

Hello everyone

It is that time! 5 years have passed so quickly!

I am filling in wife's ILR application and there's this question.



I am confused by some of the questions here, for example the question that asks:

Where did you marry or enter a civil partnership?

What is meant by "marry" here? Do they mean where we had our wedding? Or do they mean where the marriage was registered with the government?

I got married in Duhok, Iraq but the marriage certificate is from Syria cause wife is from Syria and she had to go there to get a passport (she didn't have a passport at the time).

So I'm not really sure how to answer

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

There's a question that asks:

Home details
Do you own or rent your home? (Required)

We do own our house, but the mortgage is in my name only. What should the wife select (this is the wife's application for ILR)? The options are:

1. I own
2. I rent
3. Neither own or rent

Selecting 3 gives a textarea titled "Who provides you with accommodation?"

What am I to select here? I'm confused because technically only I (the husband) own the home, but we all live together.

Because no matter what is the answer, there is no requirement to prove anything

hmm but in the checklist of things to provide, we are asked for proof of the mortgage payments and the council tax payments.

I'm worried that if those are not in the wife's name, they might cause problems?

Cohabitation documents are separate. Any document can be used for those. Again, you can answer whatever you want

I'm trying to book a UKCAS appointment, and even though I've selected Core Service, I don't see any free slots. I keep going as far into the future as the system allows me and I can't see a single empty FREE slot!

What am I to do?

If no free slots are available, you will need to pay extra for the appointment.

Wife just recieved her Indefinite Leav to Remain, thank you so much.

Can she now proceed to apply for Naturalisation? Or does she have to wait a certain period of time?

Also, can she apply for Naturalisation and passports at the same time?

She can apply once she has received her ILR BRP card provided she meets all of the requirements for citizenship.

Great thank you, she does and she has received her ILR BPR.

Is it true that one can apply for the Naturalisation and the passport in one go?

No she cannot. The joint application option was withdrawn in November 2018.
