advice with 5 year qualification period

Post by eye9 » Mon Oct 14, 2019 9:17 pm

Hello everyone!!!
I am new to the forum I have a question regarding 5 year qualification period. I arrived in the UK in 2004 from the EU, in 2010 I acquired permanent residence status. Due to Brexit, I decided to apply for British citizenship, but I'm not sure if my supporting documents are enough to prove the last 5 years and due to health reasons I'm on ESA from 2016 and nearly end of my rehabilitation. I'm so happy soon I can back to normal. Due to house moves, I lost documents and requested proof of my employment and benefit history from HMRC and the letter was sent to me but if this will be accepted by HO? and if there will be not any problem form 2016 I'm not employed? Thank you

Note that economic activity is not a requirement for naturalisation.
Provide as much detail and documents as you can (P60 or employer letter(s)) and explain any gaps. UKVI will connect to HMRC anyway so together with what you provide and they get from HMRC they'll have your complete history. Where necessary you can include other official documents, from ESA, Council tax, etc. to cover any gaps in employment.

No need to upload the document here.
The HMRC letter and a covering explanatory note is probably sufficient

As suggested an explanatory note as to why you don't have documents such as P60 or employer letter(s).

Did you have a PR card from 2010? If yes then Settled Status would not have been necessary.

thank you for your quick replay. I applied for PR on 09/18 and used 2005 to 2010 years on application. HO send me a letter on 01/19 states: DATE YOU ACQUIRED PERMANENT RESIDENCE STATUS IS 07/02/2010
but the residence card date of the issue is 31/01/19.

Just being told from a trusty source that 10 years employment section
You can give all information you got . Dont worry how long or short it is. Home office can find it through your national insurance number anyway. I was worrying because i had record of only latest 5years.
But a very good lawyer told me dont worry it just info if you don’t remember or dont have dont worry just give at least last and present employment details. HMRC has all records..!

If you got your PR in 2010 and your card or document states that then apply anytime you wish now. The date on the PR card is the issue date only.

do I have to apply before Brexit date 31.10.19? something will change in the naturalization process if I apply after this date? just one more thing, the second referee is not a British citizen but is an LTD company director but not registred to vat. Thank you so much for all.

London and an approximate date will be sufficient.

thank you how about this question below, this answer is ok? or I need to provide more details?

How does the referee know the applicant?

We met as teenagers many years ago and became friends.

We met in 2004 and became friends.

Thank you and have a good day.

You can simply state 'FRIEND'.

You won't be refused for a referee. If they are not happy, they will ask you for another one.

I did the paper form in 2012 and there was a specific question on how LONG your referee has known you. I don't have experience of the online forms.
