Anyone knows about Intention to Retain Irish Citizenship?

Post by hique » Thu Oct 17, 2019 5:38 pm

You must complete a declaration of Intention to Retain Irish Citizenship if you reside outside of Ireland by completing Form 5 annually.

Please complete this form if;
You became an Irish citizen through naturalisation
If you reside outside of Ireland

I got my citizenship in 2017 and left Ireland last September 2019.

I wonder when I should start declaring my intention to retain the Irish citizenship please?
After 1 year of living outside Ireland? At the time of the moving?

Please help.

The citizenship can be revoked if the person has not declared their intention to retain the citizenship after living abroad for 7 years.

So in theory you should make the first declaration before the end of 7 years, but you should start your annual declaration well before that.
