IT'S ARRIVED!!!!!

I'm so pleased/excited! Here is my timeline:

4th December 2018 - Application received at the London Irish Embassy
22nd February 2019 - Confirmation/Receipt email from Dublin
23rd October 2019 - Confirmation of address email
19th October 2019 - Certificate received (no congrats email before)

24th October 2019 - Date added on to register.

I'll apply for my passport now, does anyone know if the online application still has to be witnessed?

Thanks so much for all of your help, and Sulla for the list making. Congrats to all the other recent certificates that I've been watching :)
Sorry, over excited! Certificate was received 19th November, not October :)

Well I was in possession of my FBR certificate for less than a week before it’s gone back off to the DFA... I’ve been told to expect a response back within 4 working weeks and I can collect my passport direct from the embassy. Fingers crossed I can draw a firm line under everything in just over 12 months!!

So happy to see so many people getting good news!!! Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting!

Congrats to you! Feels great doesn't it!

Just awaiting my cert in the post then i'll be getting on with my passport application too.

I'm also curious to know if the online application has to be witnessed, does anyone know?

Hi Chris ,

I would imagine it's the same as the FBR online application in that you do the application online and after send off your documents to Cork with the witness signature I guess .

Just wanted to give an update on my son’s FBR application. My last update I had indicated that I got a confirmation of address email. I decided to phone FBR to get a tracking number for the certificate and returned documents. The agent provided me with a tracking number and informed me that my son was entered into the FBR on Oct 17. So as of right now the details are as follows:

Application received in Dublin: Dec 6, 2018
Confirmation of address email: Oct 11, 2019
Date entered into FBR: Oct 17, 2019
Certificate mailed (per tracking #): Nov 5, 2019
Date received in mail: ????

As you can see above, I still have not received my documents in the mail. I live in Western Canada so it’s to be expected that it will take a big longer. However, I am starting to get a bit nervous.

The tracking indicates that it left the Dublin mail center on Nov 5 but has not updated since then. I tried entering the tracking # into the Canada Post system but no information.

Has anyone on this message board that is Canadian received their documents in the mail? If so, how long did take?

Also, a general question for anyone, did your tracking get frequent updates? Or is it similar to mine in that it updated went the item was initially sent and then only updated on conformation of delivery?
Hey,

I received an email confirming my address Oct 29th and was put into the FBR as of Nov 6th. I called today to see when I would receive the package and was told mine will be mailed out mid next week. I then asked how long it would take and was told 3-4 weeks, but it depends on Canada Post. If thats the case then you've got about 1 or 2 weeks left.

Not sure if you plan on getting the passport quickly or not. But id suggest getting that all filled out now while you wait. The turn around there is supposed to be a bit long.
Thanks for this info!

No rush for me on the passport, just nervous the longer it goes without receiving the certificate and original docs that maybe it got lost in the mail. But as you said, I could be looking at a week or 2 before receiving it.

I will provide an update again when it arrives.

Updated list. Congrats to all recently successful applicants. I am wondering if people from some of the earlier months are still waiting or if they actually received their certificates. I mean for instance Cindy from June 2018 or Nydccub / Rick81 from August 2018. There are also a few others from September. Hi Sulla,

Final update :-

11 Dec 2018 sent FBR application to Edinburgh by Royal Mail Special Delivery.

21 Mar 2019 received E-Mail from Ireland acknowledging receipt of FBR application in Balbriggan. My only question at this time was where the "f**k" had the application been sitting for the previous 3 month's ?

14 Oct 2019 received Phone message and E-Mail from Balbriggan, requesting confirmation of Home Address.

5 Nov 2019 FBR Cerificate received, the date registered on FBR Certificate was the 31 Oct 2019.

6 Nov 2019 applied for an Irish Passport in the Post Office at 136 West Nile Street, Glasgow using the "Post Office Express Delivery Service".

20 Nov 2019 "journey's end", finally received my Irish Passport; felt absolutely brilliant and actually did a wee "Irish Jig" after opening and checking the contents.

A Special Thanks to the Irish Government for giving me and so many other's with Irish links, (in my case a granny born in Fermanagh, N Ireland in 1895, though at this point in time all Ireland was still part of the Union), the opportunity in gaining Irish Citizenship; because after Brexit the Irish Authorities; plus "every man and his dog" knew they were going to be swamped with applications; especially from the UK, they could so easily have changed their rules on Citizenship.

Best of Luck to everyone still awaiting their FBR Certificate and Passport, it'll definitely all be worth it in the end.

Special Thanks to Sulla, jgclancy for their dedication and hard work and all the other poster's on the site for keeping everyone up to date with relevant information and news.

Cheers,

Rob9

Hello!

Was advised to repost here - apologies to anyone who's read this already.

I'm new here, driven by desperation to these (hopefully) friendly shores because on Wednesday I got a message that after nine months my FBR application was being processed - yay!

Then I read in the message that they need me to provide an original death certificate for my grandfather.

Unfortunately this is impossible, because he died in Germany in 1968, and after 30 years by law they will not issue any further original certificates, but only a copy of the register page recording details. They had recommended that I have the deed apostilled (similar to notarisation), and I had done this and provided a full certified translation.

I ought to mention that it is quite possible there is no original deed any more anyway, because the archive in question had a major disaster in 2009 and 90% of its holdings were affected, causing about 50 years' worth of restoration work.

Since there are no questions about the birth or marriage certificates in the line, I feel very upset that my application may be rejected on a technicality that does not have any bearing on my Irish heritage.

Has anyone here been through anything similar? I saw some discussion about being unable to provide ID for a living grandparent. Would explaining German law help? What about an affidavit?

TIA!

Hi all. I'm patiently waiting on my application, and thanks to Sulla for maintaining the list.

As I submitted in March 2019 and I'm seeing Jan/Feb people getting their FBR notifications I'm getting excited. :)

One question - I submitted from the USA. Can anyone tell me whether the address confirmation comes in the form of an email or a phone call? I assume the former but thought I'd ask.

I never received one myself, but from reading what others have posted, it seems to be E-Mail. Be sure to check your junk folder.

Welcome to the FBR thread! I'm still awaiting any news on my application submitted end of January, but expecting to hear something hopefully next month and figures crossed that my affidavit is sufficient. I think you may need to go the affidavit route or perhaps a reply back to the DFA explaining the German law and providing proof of that law and stating that you provided the only documentation legally available to you? Hopefully someone else can weigh in as well. The thread is active with timelines at the moment because they seem to have picked up the approvals so a lot of people are finally getting their confirmations.

Thank you, DanaMarie! I saw your story while looking for any similar cases and am hoping the affidavit works for you. If so, it will be a hopeful sign probably for many. I'd be delighted to hear from anyone who has done this and - fingers crossed - succeeded. I've written to the DFA with the letter that explained the situation to me (may have to get a certified translation rather than just my own). Think I'll try to talk to an Irish citizenship lawyer tomorrow, in case I need to sort out an affidavit via my solicitor (in UK).

The pace definitely seems to have picked up - I sent my application in February and got the auto-reply that it would probably take 6 months. Then I rang in early August to ask how progress was going, and was told they had just started on August 2017, so to expect about 12 months. So hearing that I was being assessed sooner than next February was a definite improvement.

I imagine, like me, you are holding your breath a bit. It's certainly affecting my sleep since I heard about this hang-up.

My FBR journey has come to an end!

I received the FBR certificate in the post yesterday, so my timeline as follows:
  • Tue 15th Jan 2019 - Application signed for at London Embassy
  • Mon 25th Feb 2019 - Confirmation email from Balbriggan that application received
  • Fri 1st Nov 2019 - Email from DFA requesting confirmation of address
  • Sat 23rd Nov 2019 - Receipt of FBR certificate and return of original documents
So the FBR process took just over 11 months overall. I didn't chase at all, as I figured they were busy enough. Though if I had not been looking at this forum for an update regarding timelines, I may have done.

For information, it arrived as RegisteredPost which required a signature. Fortunately for me it was a Saturday and I happened to be in.

Onto the passport application next, which can now be done (mostly) online. A paper application form was also provided, so that's still an option.

Passport arrived 23/11, having posted the form (not through passport express, just the regular postal service) on 09/11. The passport office took payment on 15/11.

My son’s FBR certificate arrived in the mail today, so my journey is complete!

Here’s a summary again of the timeline:

(Canadian application)
Application received in Dublin: Dec 6, 2018
Confirmation of address email: Oct 11, 2019
Date entered into FBR: Oct 17, 2019
Certificate mailed (per tracking #): Nov 5, 2019
Date received in mail: Nov 25, 2019

Hello everyone,

Thank god for this forum! : )

I’ve applied for my FBR from New Zealand as currently residing here however hold a British passport. Both grandparents were Irish however just went through my grandad as knew all his important dates.

Sent off application – 12/07/2019
Received confirmation – 15/07/2019

The New Zealand consulate website keeps changing on how long it will take, was 6 months, then 4, now at 8 months..so who knows when it will be processed :) Anyone else applied from New Zealand?

Thanks

The list does not contain information on the nation of origin for each case. For some cases, it does, but this is not the norm. Generally, I add this info only when the case in via and embassy and therefore in the non-direct application stream. This is because embassy cases have been experiencing faster processing times and I wanted to avoid misleading the majority of applicants. Since NZ applicants still go through the embassy route, I should have added this info to any such cases on the list. However, I can't guarantee that I have done this 100% of the time. If there are any other applicants on the list who applied from NZ (or other embassy route nations) that have not been included then please let me know.

Hi All,

Thought I would join in on the fun. I applied for myself (adult) and my 15-year-old sister in two seperate applications as I did not realise families could go in one envelope. Timeline is very recent;

Application Posted from UK: 7th November 2019
Email that it had been received: 15th November 2019

The email says the processing time is 6 months but I am not going to hold them to that.

Funnily enough, I just ended my 10-month long application to become a Canadian citizen as I have been living in Canada for the past 7 years. Now I have this new citizenship to look forward to!

This is exciting news. I'm late April so there's a slim chance I could be Irish by the new year. I'll be in Ireland for NYE too.
