Critical Skills Work Permit for Non EEA

Post by mikan29 » Sat Nov 23, 2019 5:03 am

I am a non-EU national who's working in Dubai. I recently got an Offer Letter from an employer in Ireland.

I'm a graduate of Civil Engineering but working as a Quantity Surveyor. Both profession were included in Critical Skills Work Permit. My employer apply my work permit under Quantity Surveyor since that's the job description and experience I have.

Recently, the one who's taking care of the process send me an email asking if I had a Registration in Society of Chartered Surveyors of Ireland and unfortunately I don't have.

Is there still a chance that they will grant the Critical Skills Work Permit despite of the fact that I can't provide such registration.

If anyone encounter the same please do give me some feedback.

Ciao.

Hi,
Best thing to do at the moment is to email DBEI's employment permits section with the question. They will reply within a few days if it is mandatory or not.

Welcome to Ireland. I'm a bit surprised that you would prefer Ireland to Dubai:)

There is no requirement to be enrolled in the "Society of Chartered Surveyors of Ireland". Most applicants who need a work permit are from abroad anyway, so you can't expect them to be registered with an Irish society before they come to Ireland.

If they require you to be enrolled in such society, they would explicitly say so on their website. For example, for accountants, this is the requirement:
- Chartered and certified accountants and taxation experts specialising in tax......
- Qualified accountants...... who are full members of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP)......
- Tax consultants specializing in non-EEA tax consultancy and compliance with a professional tax qualification or legal qualification with tax specialism......
However, in your application, you should provide evidence to show that you have the equivalent university degree or recognised expertise/experience from another country.

Construction Market here in Dubai were not the same anymore, that's why I decided to give other country a shot.

And as per what you said, that's exactly my thought same as my employer. How can I have a registration if I'm not staying in Ireland. And it's the first time that they encounter this issue since they process 2 other permit prior to mine.

As per them, they're a little strict nowadays regarding the permit.

I'm still waiting for their response regarding the Permit since it's almost 8 weeks now.

Wish me luck so it's really "Welcome to Ireland" for me.
