Lost BRP but going home over Christmas

Post by wasifinferno » Fri Nov 29, 2019 5:39 pm

Hey guys,

I was stupid enough to put my BRP in my wallet and I lost it. Now I have three weeks before I go home and I need priority if I want my BRP replaced, which is too expensive.

So I was thinking of applying for a replacement visa after going home and come back and apply for my BRP in January, and overall it almost saves me £450. Now, I'll be going home for a month so I should have enough time for a replacement visa right?

Secondly, is it legal to do so? I mean, is it allowed if I report my BRP stolen in UK but apply for a replacement visa(instead of replacement BRP directly)? Or do I need to fib a bit?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds so, but you will need to check turnaround times at the specific post.

Thank you so much! Lastly, I'm aware that leaving the UK is allowed without your BRP. However, do I need any proof or statement? Or do I just tell them I lost my BRP if they stop me?

Hi, my friend is in similar situation, just wondering as the replacement visa is for people who lost brp outside of UK, if you have reported the card lost while still in UK will you still be able to apply replacement visa abroad?

Thanks.

Thanks - will he also need a local police report in order for him to apply brp replacement visa? As he has reported the lost of his wallet and the card to the police in UK here, just want to know whether he has to report separately again to the local police in the country where he is going to apply the visa.

Many thanks!

You can check all this for yourself by doing a sample or dummy application without paying the fee or submitting it. Then you will see exactly what you do and do not need. It will entail declaring that you are outside the UK, so obviously you cannot submit it from within the UK if that is untrue, but you can consider it a practice run.
