PhD Tier 4 visa downgraded to MPhil, need change Visa?

Dear Experts,

I am very tense now.

My situation:
I am having Tier 4 student visa for my 4 year PhD course, visa expired December 2020.
I am now told by my supervisor that my PhD will be downgrade to MPhil, and if MPhil, i need to change visa.

Do I need to change visa? because my current visa is PhD sponsor by same university.

Why I cannot continue use current visa until expired?
If I need apply new MPhil visa, how long is the duration?

Your supervisor should not be giving you visa advice. Speak to the international student adviser at the university -- they are the Tier 4 visa expert and they will explain your options.

International office also know i will get MPhil

I don't understand. Your university is sponsoring the visa, they know the details of your course and academic situation, and their international student adviser offers free and expert visa advice.

sadly to say, my university in UK is small and doees not have this service. I did ask them, they said they do not know.
So I am searching internet.

But they will know whether they can enrol you on the new course with the same visa, or whether you need a new one.

Which university is it?

The reason I asked here is to check what is other cases happening in another uni?
