Post by Rose2019 » Wed Dec 18, 2019 6:59 am

Hello

My friend was banned from UK in 2015 for 10 years due to the fact he was illegal. So he went back home and since visited Dubai in 2017 for holiday in which he left the country after his 10 days holiday was over

He wants to visit Greece tourism basis for a week..Will he be allowed in the EU . He is Nigerian and want to apply for a schengen visa to Greece so will he be allowed into the country because he was banned from the UK?

Thank you

As it stands, he may apply for Schengen visa. Good thing is there is no question in the form that asks about any visa refusal history. However, most countries - USA, Canada, UK, New Zealand and Australia - do share information on [most] applicants of the visas.
That said, if the application documents are prepared with no room for suspicions, the granting of a Schengen visa won't have a problem [unless they check and saw that he was illegal in another country]. I should suggest he should probable opt for a very short trip like a week or 10 days. Insurance, bank statements - with no sudden large amount deposits, clear cut itinerary, hotels etc should be prepared in full.

Hi

Thank you for your reply

he has been banned only in UK as that is where he was illegal and deported after failed applications

Even if he gets the schengen visa (as u are right the form does not ask about anything about crime in the form)...Do you think he can be stopped at the border in Greece?

Also it ask below for things like

Documents to be provided by applicants traveling for the purpose of Tourism (SCHENGEN)
Nigeria - Visas

1. Criminal record of the last three years – Certified by Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For non-Nigerian nationals certified from your Embassy.

2. Statement occupying property (e.g. House) – Certified by Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For non-Nigerian nationals certified from your Embassy.

3.Original certificate of employment of the last three years and employment letter stating the days of leave.

4. Tax clearance certificate, of the last three years – certified from the issuing authority and M.F.A.
For non-Nigerian nationals certified from your Embassy.

5. Salary slips of the last three years

6. Bank statement and balance of account over last three years - Certified at least from one Official and from the Head of the Bank (name, surname, rank, signature and bank’s seal).

7. Hotel reservation – letter (in Greek) by faxing from the hotel with the evidence of the Guest (name, surname, and the number of the passport) for the whole duration of the intended stay, and the price of booking – Certified from the Manager of the hotel (name, surname, signature and the hotel’s seal).

8. Copy of flight ticket or flight reservation including return flight.

Hi,

It is indeed a long list if you want a Schengen visa from the Abuja's Greek consulate. He will have to provide all the documents except the marriage certificate (he is single). On employment, you say he is self employed and at the same time, he is working for his father's company. To cut the long story short, his father's company should provide the papers for employment plus salary slips. If he wants to go through the self employed route, he will have to demonstrate that in a cover letter including the verifiable income from his self-employment endeavors. The reason for these requirements is that the visa officer needs to be sure that he will return to his country after his stay in Greece.

On the other hand, does he really need a Schengen visa from Greece? Why not trying France? They do not have such a long list of documents.
