Business/secondary income on tier 2

Post by Botman » Wed Jan 15, 2020 12:32 pm

Hi. I understand that we cannot do a second employment while being on tier 2 visa.

But are we allowed to do business or have additional sources of income. For example: renting a room in your property or listing it on airbnb; or doing any business; or investing in stocks.

Thanks

Self employment is not possible on a Tier 2, so any of those activities you mentioned are in breach of it, investing in stocks included.

You can take up a secondary job as long as it's in the same sector up to 20 hours a week. The tax for the secondary job is managed the same way as your primary job, by the company.

So Tier 2 General visa holder is not allowed to buy stocks? Also they are not allowed to rent a room in their house? Do you have any link stating that investing & renting are self-employment activities?

You are only allowed to earn from your employer( or employers in case of a secondary job in the same sector), any additional earnings will be in breach of the T2 visa as you're not allowed to run a side business. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... FINAL1.pdf
