Universal credit and unearned income

Post by Stans11 » Wed Jan 22, 2020 12:30 pm

Dear Guru,

I have a question about universal credit and unearned income. I hold ILR and my wife and son are my dependents. My son goes to grammar school and the tuition fee is paid by parents, who live outside the UK. Every month my parents transfer my son's tuition fee to my bank account. The tuition fee is debited from my account. Financially, I am not in great condition, I do not want to ask for more money from my parents. I am wondering whether I could apply for universal credit. Please note, both of us work but zero hour contract. Usually both of us work around 20 hours per week.

Kind regards,

Amber

Yes, you can apply for UC, the money from your parents should be disregarded.

Can I have other guru's opinion on this? Maybe some evidence/source?

I would love to thank you for your time and support.

It really helps people like me.

I suggest you read the UC Regulations 2013.
