Switching from tier 2 general dependent to Tier 4 short term IN COUNTRY

Post by varshashastri » Mon Mar 23, 2020 11:29 am

Hi all,
Hope you are doing well.
My husband is on tier 2 general dependent visa and would like to do a short course in the UK.
Can he switch from tier 2 general dependent to Tier 4 visa in the country?
After the course, he will be switching to Tier 2 general. Can this be done in country as well?
Kindly let me know the answers to the above two questions.

Thanks
Varsha

He can study a short course on tier 2 dependent. What is planning on studying exactly??
After the course, he will be switching to Tier 2 general. Can this be done in country as well?
Only if on a qualifying degree course and tier 4 visa. Usually the short courses are not qualifying visas.

Basically he wants to switch from tier 2 dependent to tier 2 general. As its not allowed in country, we are considering going on tier 4 for a short course and then switch to tier 2 general so we don't have to leave the country as travel to our home country is restricted at this point.

He already has a qualifying degree to switch to tier 2

So trying to circumvent the immigration rules basically.

I don't think what he is trying to do will work. Note that he cannot work on a short course tier 4 visa either.

To switch to tier 2 within the UK, it has to be a qualifying course. A short course would not meet this requirement.

It is not about only having the degree to switch, it is having the tier 4 visa for the qualifying course.

But you cannot switch in country from Tier 2 dependant to anything, including Tier 4.
