Tier 2 Furloghed Workers (COVID-19)

Post by vtox » Fri Apr 03, 2020 10:07 am

I have now contacted the citizen advise and they have confirmed with tier 2 visa I can claim new style JSA https://www.gov.uk/how-to-claim-new-style-jsa.

My only question is if I claim for this will it affect my future applications for ILR.

Based on the UK health minister this situation is expected to last 3 to 6 month and I guess at some point I will run out of money.

New Style Jobseekers Allowance is not a public fund as this benefit is based on your (working) contributions to the UK over the last 2 relevant tax years.

New Style Jobseeker's Allowance is paid for a maximum of 182 days and is a maximum of only just over £70 a week. Your earnings, and any payment you are getting from a pension, can affect the amount you may receive.

You can't take low income benefits like Universal Credit, as this is a public fund.

Thank you for your reply.

I key question was will my future application for ILR will be affected if I claim the benefit?

Not all benefits are Public Funds.

UK Visas and Immigration guidance for how it makes decisions about what UK public funds foreign nationals can claim and what action it must take if they claim funds they are not entitled to.

New Style JSA is a contribution based benefit and until recently, was called Contribution Based JSA.
