Child born in Pakistan

Post by Pakshaheen1947 » Wed May 13, 2020 1:33 pm

Hi,

I am British citizen by birth and my wife has ILR but currently she is in Pakistan and expecting a baby. My question is if the child is born in Pakistan what kind of visa does the child needs and how long it is going to take.

Many thanks,

Pakshaheen1947

If you are British born (British otherwise than descent), the children are automatically British by descent and can apply for a British passport directly, which can take many weeks, sometimes months from overseas. Or you can get them Pakistan passport and apply for a certificate of entitlement to right of abode, which costs a lot more than a British passport.

And if they are British, they cannot apply for a visa as they are not subject to immigration control.

Were you born in the UK or were you born abroad to a British parent?

Then apply for an overseas passport directly for the child.

Be aware that first British applications from the sub-continent can take six months to a year.

Topics merged.

You were already provided with advice and links when you asked in may this year. The advice doesn't change.
