Family application for British Citizenship

Post by vrajd » Fri Sep 25, 2020 6:57 pm

I am planning to apply British Citizenship for Myself and my 10 years old son, we both have ILR (got in 2018),
I have a confusion whether I have to fill two different applications, or through Family application
but I didn't find anything about family application, so I have couple of questions:

1) Can we both (Myself and my 10 years old son) apply British Citizenship at the same time?

2) If not, then do I need to fill two different applications? and How should we reference my application (father's) in Child's application?

Thanks in advance.

Was the child born in the UK or abroad?

ILR (got in 2018) and we are not applying citizenship for her, so its just for myself and my child.

The expectation for a child's registration is that one parent is a British citizen or is applying for British citizenship at the same time AND that both the child and the other parent have ILR.

Child's application will likely fail. Better to apply solo and then apply for child's registration as a British citizen when they meet expectations.

Generally, the child has the same UK Immigration status as that of the less-privileged parent. What route to ILR did you and the child take?

Child got ILR based on 5 years stay in the UK, we all (father, mother and child) came the UK in 2012 and got ILR in 2018 at the same time.

So is it possible to apply citizenship for child with father at the same time?

I apologise. I misunderstood. I got the impression that the mother did not have ILR.

Yes, it will be possible to apply for the child along with one parent. The child's registration certificate will be issued alongside the parent's when the parent attends the citizenship ceremony.

Thanks for the response.

But how can we apply?, based on family application? if yes then how to fill the family application?
if not, then do I need to fill two different form AN (for father) and MN1 (for child)?

Simply add the family members details who are also applying where the form asks!! It is not difficult.

The form will ask if there are applicants you want to add. I don't know at which point it is. I don't have sight if the online forms.

What should I enter for the below field for child? Section 3(1), correct?

Indicate the section of the British Nationality Act 1981 under
which you would like the application considered.

I have started filling the online application (Form AN), there is one question.

Do you have an immigration adviser based in the UK?

What should I say "YES" or "NO"

If you are applying by yourself then the answer is NO.

What we use for this?

Do you have a previous visa, entry clearance or leave to remain where you had to prove your knowledge of English? (Required)

Yes No

Tell us the previous visa, entry clearance or leave to remain you had?

Presumably to had to provide English for ILR, or a previous visa application?
Then then answer is YES - ILR/visa category.
