Someone mentioned that there is an expiration date on the naturalisation certificates. Can anybody please share what the date is? (number of days, weeks, months?)
Many thanks and best wishes.
Not sure what you are looking at - no expiration date on the certificate - it's for life.
Do you mean the date by which you need to attend the ceremony?
This is exactly my understanding that there should be no date printed on them, nor any date by when one must attend the ceremony. But someone mentioned it above so I just wanted to doublecheck with some who has seen the actual thing.
The HO requires to attend a ceremony within a certain time from the date on the certificate, I think it's been extended to 6 months due to Covid. Can someone who's received their ceremony invitation letter confirm?

Just received the below from Hackney
they are also offering free private ceremonies

Thank you for your email.

I can confirm that we do have your certificate and we will be inviting you to attend a ceremony shortly.

Please bear with us! Within the space of a week, we have (unexpectedly!) received over 150 naturalisation certificates with another 60 due to be delivered tomorrow!

Once we have added everyone onto our system, we will then be allocating ceremonies in order of the date the application was approved.

Kind regards

followed by an invitation to attend a ceremony on 12 November, I got my approval on 14 September. Hackney seem to want an invitation letter from the HO as well, which I haven't received yet..
Hi when did u submit your application please as my approval datę is 17 september. Thanks

Some good news after months of waiting ...

My council has got my certificate today, they informed me without the invitation letter/poll number, they would not able to book my ceremony.

is the poll number same as the home office reference number?

Thanks!

Hi, so basically there is not a expiry date on the certificate. But what you will see is the date you came to collect it at the council that's about it. I collected mine this morning. Best of luck to you all.

Hello everyone.
I was wondering if anyone had dealt with Glasgow City Council at all?
I'm from Glasgow. Got approved early Aug still no sign of invitation letter. Contacted ho but no response. Council is not giving any info until I receive invitation letter. Its so confusing.
From Glasgow too - approval date was 20th July. Glasgow City Council just refuses to provide any information without an invitation letter.

No, I have clarified this with my council (Greenwich) before. This was their response -
Please provide your Home Office Reference Number and Poll Number stated on the invitation so we can confirm receipt of your certificate.

If there is no Poll Number displayed on your letter it is likely this is an approval letter informing you that your application has been successful, it is not an invitation to attend a ceremony, this will follow.
My impression is the poll number will be printed on the invitation letter.

I am afraid you are right, I asked one of my friend whose HO reference number and Poll number over invitation letter is different. My council has advised me without Poll number, they would not book me in for the ceremony.

Hi chacha-n-co, that’s great news! Where’s your council? Is it a private ceremony or virtual? Keep us posted please. Thanks

Does anyone know what to do if my council is booking me in for ceremony in coming weeks but i have not received my invitation letter still ?
I have been told I need HO invite with me to be able to attend my ceremony but not sure what to do now as we all know HO is quite slow with responses and i imagine with lockdown that won't improve. And I think my letter just got lost somewhere since council has it but i don't.

I got a response by my council:

“ We still haven’t received your paperwork yet but we are starting to receive large numbers of certificates from the home office and they have notified us that they are intending to keep sending them to us during this new lockdown. Unfortunately however following the UK Prime Minister’s announcement on the evening of 30th October 2020 to cancel public gatherings no further group or private citizenship ceremonies will be taking place until further notice.

Once we have received instruction from the home office, we will contact all new citizens to inform them of new arrangements as we are looking at various ways to try to hold ceremonies at the moment.

...”

Also, they mentioned they contact me themselves by email once my paperwork is with them.
Thanks for sharing this information the council has not replied to any of my emails since last week I am also from BCC do you mind me asking when did you send your email?
Yesterday.
wow ... I wonder they have decided not to reply to me at all I have sent 4 emails in past 4 weeks :(
Maybe because your letter is on the way? Let us know please.

Nothing at all. They’ve ignored both my emails now to confirm whether my certificates hve arrived.

I stopped getting the automated reply so I’m not sure if their office closed or not.

Any luck on your side with MP?
