I am with Westminster Council and was approved on August 21st. +1 to those who haven't received their invitation letter yet. Fingers crossed it arrives this week.

Council: Westminster

Hi I was approved on the 15 th August which makes today exact 12 weeks. I find it quite frustrating and depressing also lockdown doesn't help at all. So decided leave it for another 2 weeks on the 14 th week I will write to home office in writing.

This is very worrying I don't understand their timeline at all.

I think it depends on each case worker’s backlog and when they have it send to the CCST for printing and issuing letters.

Same here ,approval date 19th of August via email. Biometrics was done on August 14th. Still no invitation letter. Its a bit frustrating that people(still happy for them, complaining about service provided by HO) from September are getting the letters now and August is still left behind. Waiting until Friday, then I will try to contact Bristol council. Maybe they will be able to give me some information.

Did you call the HO and follow up?
My 12 week period ends on Friday, I will follow-up then. Hopefully we receive the invitation before as the HO takes a long time to respond.

I'm also in Westminster, have been waiting for over half a year for the paperwork to be printed, no news at all. I believe there are at least a couple of other users in Westminster who were approved months ago and haven't received their invitation letters yet.
It's good news the council still conducts ceremonies though! Thanks for posting and giving us some good news.

I applied on 2nd April and was put into the biometric reuse category. I opted out and went for the next day paid appointment to get the approval on 20th August. I've lost the gamble. I would have been better off opting in to get my approval in September. Rant over. I hope to get the invitation soon.

We believe we have just received certificates for citizens whose approval came through in July but the Home Office just send out what they have when they can so we are not sure if we have all of July yet or not. We do not know how long it will be before we receive September’s ones, but please come back to us once you have received your invitation letter.

Just nów received this from West Sussex council. I saw in this forum someone had ceremony for start of september So dont what to beleive

Quick update on Coventry City Council ceremonies. Just received a letter by email confirming that they are doing virtual ceremonies and phoning new citizens (of those they have the certificates of / received the invitation letter I can imagine) to arrange a date for the ceremony. Just ensure your email and phone number is up to date on the Coventry.gov.uk website. They are also giving the option to proceed with small group ceremonies (socially distanced, in person) at a later date after lockdown. You have to indicate if you would prefer to go with this group ceremony, otherwise they assume you will take the virtual ceremony option.

I got phoned about half an hour later after the email arrived and I was asked to pick a date and time next week w/c 16 Nov, so I picked the 16th Nov. They said it should take no longer than 20 min or so. I then received a Microsoft Teams calendar invite (with the meeting link) for the date and time slot I indicated. I need to show my photo ID and invitation letter from the Home Office on the webcam.

For folks approved in end Jul/early Aug and long in despair just to let you know my certificate has finally arrived at the Greenwich registrar.

The reception team helpfully took my details and will give me a call back on further dates and times for private ceremonies. My approval date is 31/07, letter dated 21/10 and letter arrived 11/11.

My hope is to be able to attend the ceremony within the week, if not early next week then move on to passport thread.

I have been using the forum for reference quite a few times, and I thought I could contribute by providing my timeline:

EU settled status confirmation: 10/06/2019
Application for citizenship: 19/06/2020
Approval Email: 30/07/2020 (dated: the same)
Council (Cheshire West and Chester) receiving documents: 6/11/2020
E-mail from council offering date for private ceremony (in response to an e-mail inquiry): 10/11/2020
Invitation Letter: 11/11/2020 (dated: 21/10/2020!)
Private Ceremony (£44): booked for 17/11/2020

I had proactively e-mailed the council on 09/11/2020, after more than 12 weeks had passed from the approval e-mail date. They responded a day later, pointing out that they had just received my documents the previous Friday. I had asked in my e-mail for the option of a private ceremony, hoping that this would be faster - I do not know whether group ceremonies are being held as well. The invitation letter only arrived today!

As other Germans out there may know, Germany will no longer recognise dual citizenship with Britain if applied for after the end of the Brexit transition period on 31/12/2020. Even though it is sufficient to just put in the application before this date, I am quite keen on getting the ceremony held before the end of the year - just to avoid having to retain and remember to bring along (every time I am applying for a new German passport or ID card) the documentation confirming the application date...

Now that July, August and September 2020 approvals are receiving their invitations almost at the same time, the model I prepared in September is ready for retirement.

However, the data in it may be useful for some future models and I am posting those here for the convenience of another data analyst.

Incidentally, I have not been considering dates on which invitations are received, only the approval dates and the dates printed on the letters. Therefore, if someone sees the value in researching the delays between the print and the arrival dates of invites, the good news is that they can search for that extra info by the members' usernames, in this thread, as well as in various naturalisation timelines' threads.

Good luck to everyone still on their journey to citizenship and to those who have already reached their destination, welcome to the club UK, it is a privilege to have you all here

You have been an immense help and encouragement to many (if not all) here including myself.

I have been approved on 24th August 2020 and still waiting for the invitation letter. According to your model I am within the time that I should have received the Invitation Letter by now, but you can never tell considering how unpredictable the times have been (as we have seen some September and even October approvals receive their invitations).
I am still keeping my hopes high and being optimistic hoping the Invitation Letter arrives within November.

I am caught between Westminster and Ealing Councils.

Application date: 24 April 2020
Reused biometrics
Approval date: 29 Sept 2020

Still waiting as no invite yet and no word from council. Was there a disadvantage to re-using biometrics?

Good to hear others have letters arriving and ceremonies happening, it keeps the hope alive!

Why other local councils continue to offer private and virtual citizenship ceremony I have now been made to wait for God knows how long to attend my citizenship ceremony because the council has made decision to suspend it without any government guidelines or instruction.
I look forward to your reply as I intend to push my complaint to director of service, my councillors and ombudsman.
I take that while this service has been suspended your salary as head and the salaries of the ceremony officers hasn’t been.

Am almost at the end of my citizenship journey, Kent county council finally booked me in to attend my ceremony on the 23rd Nov. Got the letter yesterday. Hopefully all goes as planned.

They are horrible with no answer for phone calls or emails! the only thing you can do now is to email them nationality@kingston.gov.uk .. ask them if they got your certificate or not yet! PLEASE keep me posted if you hear back from the;)

Hi TheTraveller - Did you receive an acknowledgement when you sent the email to Kingston ? I called the council just now, they are saying there will be a delay as they are dealing with backlog.

Hey Triiishii, have you heard back from Kingston Council ? There said they have not got my certificate!! I was approved in July and got my invitation dated 18 Oct … I’m in bad situation now!

In my understanding, all of the surrounding Maidstone towns/ councils are governed by KCC. I am from Dartford and when I was applying my default place for citizenship ceremony was KCC.

Hi Good morning,

I emailed them twice in the past to chase my certificate. The response, if they don't have it, will be that someone will get in touch as soon as they have it. They are a really nice and professional team, nothing similar to the HO employees.
August approval are the ones to follow now. I know its easy to say than do but don't worry. The HO finally got the ball rolling and soon all of the backlogs will be cleared.
