Update on website: https://www.irishimmigration.ie/applica ... -ceremony/

COVID-19 has unfortunately prevented the holding of our large scale citizenship ceremonies which is impacting the processing of applications. As a solution on an interim basis for applicants whose applications are approved, Minister McEntee was pleased to recently approve the priority drafting of a Statutory Instrument, whereby naturalisation certificates may issue on receipt of a statutory declaration. In this way, we hope to alleviate the delays currently impacting those seeking to start their new lives as Irish citizens.

Please continue to check our website for further announcements and updates here. It remains our intention that large scale ceremonies will recommence once circumstances allow.

HI , I Received the approval letter before 2nd Nov 2020 .
Did anyone know how to do with : drafting of a Statutory Instrument
how to do it ?
Citizenship will send the form of Drafting or
I do not know what to do ?

Thanks you .
HAY, hOLA WHEN DID YOU APPLY FOR THE APPLICATION ???

My interpretation of their latest announcement (the one you quoted) is that they are working on creating a tool (a form, a declaration, who knows) which will be sent to everybody awaiting for the ceremony. This tool will replace the ceremony. Nobody knows for sure what will be. By what they have said so far, I m expecting it will be a form sent to your home address which you'll have to sign and return to them. I don't work with the Department and all this is an interpretation of the latest announcement from the Department of Justice.
We only need to wait and see what they come up with.
I really hope that they will act soon. I have paid the 950 Bank Draft in January 2020 and been waiting for a Ceremony since then.
Good luck to everybody.
What do you mean, “you received your approval before 2nd Nov 2020.” You mean before level 5 restrictions Or ....?

I've applied in June 2019, got approval in January 2020 and paid the 950 Euro. Now I m waiting for the Ceremony (or the statutory declaration)

So last month my application was in advanced stage .. and today I got this reply ... :( :( :( :(

Thank you for your email. I am directed by the Minister for Justice and
Equality to refer to your correspondence received in this Office.

Your application for naturalisation is currently being processed with a
view to establishing whether you meet the statutory conditions for the
granting of naturalisation and will be submitted to the Minister for
decision when processing is complete.

The Division, like everyone in the State, has been impacted by the
restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 healthcare crisis. The restrictions
imposed have resulted in all Citizenship staff working remotely with
minimal access to the Office. Obviously these restrictions are outside of
the control of the division and have resulted in significant delays in
dealing with correspondence received in the Office and have had a negative
impact on processing times for all applications as the Division adjusts to
working in the current environment. The processing of the applications is
further impacted by the ability of Citizenship to contact other bodies,
many of whom will be negatively impacted by COVID-19.

I can confirm that the Division has engaged in concentrated effort to
process and complete all cases that remain outstanding for a considerable
period of time. Please be assured that we will revert immediately once a
decision has been reached on the application. Your patience in this matter
is appreciated.

Team 2
hay . just wondering when did you apply??

I got the exact same reply.

They are just copying and pasting so I wouldn't read too much into it

Hi everyone
Has anyone, who got application approved before COVID, received the affidavit/declaration to complete in order to be issued the certificate of naturalisation?
Is there any timeline since the declaration of Minister for Justice Helen McEntee on this process?

Temporary legislation for using affidavits instead of official ceremonies are yet to be finalised and it may take a long time to get approved.

"it may take a long time to get approved" whats your source for this info. According to minister in parlimentary question in December this was due to get finalised very early in 2021.

Reality.
As of now it has not been finalised yet. No updates have been published on the INIS website of such legislation being approved and applied in lieu of the official ceremonies

Early in 2021 doesn’t mean the first weekend of January. It more likely means before the end of the first quarter.

First quarter? I envy your optimism! I've lived here long enough to realize "early in 2021" means "maybe by August".

I'm usually an optimist, but I foresee the following scenario (still not too pessimistic, more realistic):
* by spring, early summer they finally get an approval for the affidavit based certificates to be issued
* by around the same time we could see progress in C19 vaccinations and some improvements in the virus spread
* they may issue few hundred affidavit based certificates (slow, due to C19 and WFH)
* a decision will be made to revert the affidavit based certificates because it's "not viable" and that there is an improvement in C19
* an approval for the next ceremony will be planned to discussed at the parliament
* Happy New 2022!

I think it will be till end of march, prior to the year of previous ceremony. Although anything could happen and it can be summer 2021 when there is less covid cases.

It will be handy if they will send the affidavits together with the approval letters, so they can be sent back with the payment and other documents.

Although I prefer to have a full official ceremony.

It will also be very handy if they could temporarily reduce the fee, since there will be no large expenses for organising ceremonies.
But I'm not holding my breath on this one

I know the crucial role front-line workers are continuing to play in responding to the threat of Covid-19 " I would appreciate it"

I expect if they apply different criteria” to different citizenship applicants based on a person’s line of work that would be types of discrimination and unfair.

Because all of us provide essential services, for example, Agriculture, horticulture, Manufacturing, Supply, repair and installation of machinery and equipment, Construction and development, Transport, storage and communications, wholesale and retail trade, accommodation and food services, professional, scientific.

therefore , many people who have been infected, based on a line of work.

If you look to measures taken in France and Canada which has started fast-tracking citizenship applications from foreign healthcare workers. but they no put on hold during the pandemic and also have not a significant backlog of applications.

we all feel of demoralisation, desperation around the delays in our applications.

But we have no choice. this is a citizenship policy and must be respected.

hopefully starting this month according to this article.

Congrats on approval letter! Did it mention affidavit procedure in approval letter?
