British & Indian Passport Apply/Surrender/Sequence

Hi Folks, could someone help me with the following information, please? I received my son's Naturalization certificate today.

- I have an appointment next week for my 1Y old to surrender his Indian passport at VFS. Can I do this without applying for British Passport first?
- Do I need to take my kid to the VFS appointment?
- Assuming I am able to surrender the Indian passport, do I have to send the cancelled Passport to British Passport office when applying? The rule says I need to send the original Passport but nothing about the Cancelled one.
