Great news!! congrats and all but i wont hold me breath just yet. I believe Applications based on Irish Marriage take priority. This might just be another Vorona! :)
I'm actually married to Irish citizen, but my application was a standard one based on residence.
Can't be 100% sure, but I think my marriage played the role.

This site made me feel more at ease, so tonight, instead of just looking at comments, I thought as an Irish citizen, I would help with some insight. My Venezuelan husband didn't know this page existed and myself got more information here than anywhere else over the past few months. I do hope there is positive news coming in the post shortly for you all, because it feels like informing each other, it is the only way we know thats going on.

I applied in January 2020 married to an Irish national and still haven’t received approval. So not sure being married to an Irish national makes us in the priority list.

It's hard to say since very few of the actual applicants are registered on the forum to create a clear picture. The title of the thread is also suggesting that it's for people whose applications were approved and not the decision being made in general. It's pity that we don't have a reliable and categorised official data.

My wife applied on March 2020 and we haven't heard anything since then. I mean no second stage letter. She is an EU citizen and a frontline healthcare worker. So I believe there is no priority for anyone. Just have to be lucky and a straight forward case will increase the chances.

The department is prioritizing applicants who are at their 2+ year mark. When applications reach 2 years, you can take the department to court (which is called a Judicial Review). this is very costly for the department when they lose, so they'll want to clear this backlog. i believe their target to clear this 2year waiting backlog is by end of June.

Not everyone gets a second letter it seems. Sometimes the "second letter" goes out with the initial acknowledgment letter. You can get an FOI to see what's been done to the application - this is free and easy to do online. You can also get a lawyer to inquire, but I doubt they'll get a solid response.

Being married to an Irish citizen does not speed up the process at all. Anecdotally, it seems to process at a slower rate based on what's shared on these forums - i suspect it's because in the past there were a lot of fraud cases associated with this type of application.

Spouses of Irish citizens are always considered a priority by being able to apply for citizenship after only three years of marriage, unlike standard applications which are based on residence. It's is understandable that there's an element of jealousy about this from other categories of applicants. Similar speculations regularly circulated on this forum that people from certain countries or of certain ethnic origin or background being discriminated against, but the official statistics of naturalised citizens from recent years shows otherwise.

Speaking of healthcare workers, it has been confirmed by the Department several times that they are not able to prioritise applications from people employed in healthcare sector or any other area because there is no legislation or system to allow them to do that.

Ok, two former coworkers of mine just told me that they have received decision today, both have applied in Summer of 2020. Looks like 2020 applications are now being finalised.

I don't know. I applied in March, got a decision earlier this year but I did not receive any e-vetting form. E-vetting is for new applications I believe.

Hi Vorona,

I know it probably won’t help much, but do you know when (which month) in 2020 they applied?

Thanks!

I don't know, did not ask. Both married to Irish citizens and applications were based on the marriage. That's all I know.

Aha, married to Irish citizens. That might be the key difference. I am still hopeful of hearing something in 2021. :-)

Thanks!

Congratulations.
I applied in February 2020 too but I am yet to receive a decision. The last time i emailed them i got a response of advance stage. I recently received FOI report and i discovered that they did garda check in the same 2020 and nothing else is being done after then. Hopefully, I'll get a decision soon.

I've got the second stage letter too but as you said, not expecting further progress this year. There are a lot of application pending from 2017, 2018, and 2019.
First applied on 10/07/2020
Got my passport back along with application no
After 5 weeks
Than they asked for more documents after 3 months
Then I email them on 02/05/2021
And they replied on 15/05/2021

Thank you for your email.

Your application is currently at an advanced stage of processing. While it
is not possible to give an exact timeframe, this office will be in touch
with you as soon as a decision has been reached.

It could be any amount of time - that just seems to be a generic email. I had a similar one in December 2020 and nothing since.

I got this email reply today:

Please note that your application for naturalisation has been submitted to the Minister for a decision. If further documentation and/or clarification of any matter related to your application is required from you, we will write to you requesting it. Otherwise, you will receive a letter in due course informing you of the Minister’s decision on your application.

Any opinion?
