Are assistant lecturers at universities considered under ineligible list of occupations?

Post by music1414 » Sun May 16, 2021 11:40 pm

Hi all, I understand that teaching assistants in general are considered ineligible for non-EEA workers to apply for employment permits. Does that include teaching at a third level education institution too? Thanks in advance!

The primary responsibility for these job roles usually includes marking student assignments, invigilate exams etc, which are just too ‘admin’ to be eligible for a permit.

Having said that, it would depend on how a college classifies the role. If this role involves teaching as well, I’m sure you could argue that it should be classified as a lecturer, therefore eligible for a permit.

It is best if you contact DBEI directly with a detailed list of responsibilities for the role.
