Wow thanks so much for going above and beyond, this is incredibly helpful. I've been banging my head trying to get in contact with them with little luck.

Stumbled on this forum by chance, and mighty glad I did.

All the best :D

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I don't have anything exciting to share, but I thought it about time to actually participate in this forum. I've been reading all of your journeys for over a year now; I feel the pain, though not as much as some of you for sure. But every new post has meant a little something to me, to see I'm not in this alone at least.

I am getting my Irish citizenship so I can move overseas to be with my long distance partner. This was all meant to happen some time ago, with the plan to do long distance a little closer (in the UK etc) until my Irish citizenship came through. I even managed to get a UK passport near the end of last year in the hopes of skimming into his country before Brexit rules changed. Alas it just didn't work out. So now we're looking at probably another 12 months before we'll see each other again (we're up to almost 2 years now).

So that's my story. It's been over 12 months since my application was received, but I know that's a drop in the ocean, and I'm not expecting to hear anything new for 6mths+

I hope for everyone's sakes (but a heck of a lot for you guys on the front lines who've been at this for so long) that things start to speed up soon.

Oh grandparents I've applied through are from Northern Ireland -- just I know this caused me some concern to start with, with the whole 'island of Ireland' thing however I emailed the Irish embassy here in Australia and they confirmed this was eligible. I know it's already been said, but just wanted to re-confirm.

and... my dates:

FBR application received in Dublin: 13 March 2020
FBR address confirmation email: --
FBR congrats email: --
FBR certificate received: --

I'm a bit concerned as I have waited over 2 years. Has anyone else been waiting as long?

Email confirmation of application received: April 5th 2019
Email confirmation of address : no
Confirmation letter: no
Certificate: no

Applying through grandparent and provided all the necessary evidence.

Yes, I received email confirmation on March 7th 2019. Application is for my 2 children so not time-critical in our case, but still a tad annoying!
Are there any complications in your case that might hold it up?
My parents were both Irish born so I was a citizen from birth and have had an Irish passport for years. I was later adopted in the UK (adoptive parents also Irish born) so I checked with FBR before I applied if this was an issue and was assured it had no impact at all and the application was still a very straight-forward one for my kids. In fact, they are eligible for FBR via both my birth family and my adoptive family. 27 months and counting....🙄

What is your advice on the documents? Should I hold on to them? The site says not to send any documents at this time. Also there is no phone or webchat to ask any questions
Anyone got any advice on this? Filled in online form and paid money. Site saying don't send documents, so I haven't done so. Is this correct?

Somewhat disconcerting to read this as very similar position. Born in UK to Irish parents, grandparents etc, applying for my 2 kids born in uk - pretty straightforward case I would have thought to process. Guess I'm on for a long wait as only 9 months in.....

Not quite that long (almost 22 months), but longer than some of the others posting success
Online application 10 Aug 2019
Email Documents received 19 Aug 2019 (paper certificates)

Still waiting - no requests to confirm address or clarify items, no confirmation

Applying through grandparent, not aware of any significant complications. Clearly, there are exceptions to strict date order.

I got new documents from the state and towns to get the seal. Interestingly, the 2019 birth certificate from the town was the long form; an earlier copy I requested around 1990 did not have the same detail.

Thanks to everyone posting updates - it is really useful.

I applied March 2020 so nothing yet, but it is great to hear that 2nd half 2019 people are now getting citizenship.

Let's hope the office is playing catch-up and getting through applications faster than they were receiving them in 2019 :-)

Thank you for sharing this information. My mum’s photocopied passport was signed as a true copy etc by her parish priest. I wonder if they will now want a certified copy as well…? Hmm 🤔

My timeline is as below
Application submitted online: 15 May 2019
Email acknowledging receipt of documents (Balbriggan): 29 May 2019
Confirmation of address email: 14 December 2020
Date added to FBR: Awaiting
Congrats email: Awaiting
FBR certificate received: Awaiting

Prior to 14th December, as you probably know, there were people who had been approved who had applied months later than me. It was frustrating, but i finally thought it was all done when me confirmation of address email came through, then all closed. Now its frustrating to see peoples confirmation of address coming through this month, then they are added to the register where I have had nothing but silence. I have re-confirmed my address to them in the interim.

I think it's just down to who and which team is dealing with it. Clearly some are being done by Captain Snail Pace and their merry bunch of chocolate fire guards.

Their service is disgraceful as they have no way to contact them.
I sent them good few emails before I heard something from them. Call the department of foreign affairs office in Dublin and ask them to speak to customer service manager. I am sure they will be able to help you out. We were both sent an email for address confirmation on 16th of December 2020 and my son was added to register on 18th of December. I am sure you are added to the register just your cert is not posted yet and sitting on someone's desk.

All the best.. Hope you will get yours soon

Thanks for the positive waves. I will sit and wait since there's such a backlog on passports anyway. June 27th is my 2 year anniversary of applying. Yep---sitting on desk gathering dust most likely which is even more annoying. Oh well....no hurry at this time so just bide my time and try to maintain my patience.

Clarification question: Once my husband is on FBR, can my adult children apply for citizenship? We are going round and round in the family and I would like to hear if someone has gotten their adult children onto the FBR this way. It would be great to have that open to future generations.

No......only children born after he obtains his FBR are eligible to also apply via FBR. My oldest brother did not get his FBR so his son is not eligible. Another brother obtained his then had 2 kids. His children can get citizenship via FBR now and he is doing it now.

Hello another long time lurker here. This message board has kept me sane in the many months I have been waiting. Knowing that other people are in the same situation has been reassuring.

I have good news! I am finally Irish and as of today I am in procession of my FBR certificate. Here is my timeline.

Tracking number confirmed deliver of documents: 24 September 2919
I didn’t receive an email to confirm this, so I phoned to confirm receipt. I then received an email acknowledging receipt of documents: 24 September 2019
Confirmation of address email: 28 May 2021 (I emailed to confirm address the same day)
Date added to FBR: 28 May 2021
Congrats email stating certificate printed & documents posted: 9 June 2021
FBR certificate & documents received: 14 June 2021

I was concerned that I wasn’t going to be at home when the documents arrived to sign for them - I wasn’t at home but Mr Postman just posted them through my letterbox.
Now to apply for my passport!

Hopefully they are beginning to process application again. Good luck to everyone waiting

Hi all,

In the process of gathering all docs and just paid for my Grandfather's birth cert as the last in the series of documents I need. I'm unclear if I can submit my application online now (I have all the info to submit this application here: https://dfa.ie/citizenship/born-abroad/ ... ign-birth/) and I know I have to send in all my supporting documentation (however, they say not to send supporting docs now because of COVID.)

My question is, should I submit the online application now so it's in the queue, or wait until they they say they are again reviewing documents?

Appreciate your help, have a great day.

John
