Switch from Tier 4 to BNO Visa, lost old BRP

I received my new BRP for BNO Visa, being instructed to return my old Tier 4 Visa BRP (valid until 2022), or report lost. After reporting lost, I received an automated email stating that the BRP has been cancelled and I’ve to apply for a replacement with 3 months or I risk fine and permission to stay taken away. Do I still need to apply for a “replacement” given that I’ve already received a new one? Or it’s just a template that everyone who report lost get the same? Will the cancellation affects my new BRP? Please let me know if you’ve experienced this before or you know anything about it. Thank you!

After receiving the new BRP and prepared to return the old one, I realised I can no longer find the old one.

It depends how long the old one was still valid for. See this guidance:

I dialled the UKVI hotline, the representative told me to do nothing apart from reporting lost, despite receiving the email (she said the email is for general purposes - everyone who report get the same). But I doubt the accuracy of the answer given by the hotline… is there any way for me to enquire using email? Thank you!
