Tier 2 - Changed jobs -- what happens to the IHS surcharge?

Post by caiodorn » Tue Jul 27, 2021 10:20 pm

Hi,

Here is the summary of my case:

- came to the UK on a 3-year Tier 2 Visa, in Aug/2019, having paid the IHS surcharge on 7 July.
- changed job, thus sponsor and applied for a Skilled Worker visa in July/2021, whereas surcharge was paid on 16 June.
- new application was approved on 15 July, and I got the remaining IHS reimbursement the next day.

The question is: how much do they refund? I was expecting to get the equivalent to 12 months, or at least 11, but got 6 months instead. I've spent 2 hours trying to find this info in the government website and failed, as well as anywhere within Google's reach.

Thanks in advance!

IHS is paid and refunded in 6 months increments. It's either a full 12 months or 6 months for a part year.
