Congrats to the other recent success stories and thank you to everyone who has shared their timelines on the thread. It saved me a lot of stress to know everyone else was experiencing the same thing. Hopefully there'll be lots more congrats emails going out soon now the office re-opening is on the horizon.

Right...now to crack open that celebratory bottle of Bailey's!
Congratulations! What a light at the end of the tunnel.

If I can borrow your luck, my congrats email will be coming tomorrow. Would settle for Friday as well.

Just curious with this address confirmation email, if you're giving them a new postal address do you need to show them proof of the address change with your name? Just I'm going to be sort of without a permanent address pretty much until I get Irish citizenship/passport. I will be in Europe but my original postal address is back in Australia, and I'd prefer to get things sent to a family address in Europe instead.

Does anyone know if I can just tell them an address and they use it? Or if not, what kind of proof would I need?

Thanks so much everyone.

My documents were received on October 9, 2019 and I haven't heard a peep as well. I have the added complication that the email address that they have no longer works (former employer address - yeah that was a dumb thing to use). I am hoping that they can really cruise through the applications once things hopefully open in a few weeks but I am a bit skeptical that they will be able to clear the backlog by the end of the year as was mentioned at some point. Back in January and February 2020, it seemed like the approval timeline was a consistent 11 months.

I kind of get the sense from this forum if your not pregnant, they are working backwards and since your date is a month off of mine maybe you'll receive yours next month. The only way the email would be an issue if they had problems with your paperwork or if you changed your address you wont be able to reply to the confirmation email, maybe you should give them a call if they open next month. see if you missed any important email

Thanks. I thought my application was fairly straightforward and I ended up submitting the information for both parental grandparents who were born and raised in Kerry. I mailed the FBR unit a letter with my new email address last month but I am not sure it would ever make its way to my application file if there isn't much staff on hand to process the mail. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I hear something in the next couple of months.

Congratulations! Seriously a long time coming, but the big update has arrived.

No update on my end, but I did email my team rep asking if an update would be possible, as I may be moving in September/October and receiving it before then would make a huge difference.

Of course, I know not to expect a response, but there really is a huge difference on my end between 2-3 weeks (the previous baseline), one month (where I’m at), and 2+ months. Fingers crossed for the big congrats update over the next few days.

Looks like we are both going to be in the 'two year club' soon then Angelo..
That's about how long it too me to get my FBR. Here was my timeline
Application submitted online: 30 April 2019
Email acknowledging receipt of documentation Balbriggan: 8 May 2019
Confirmation of address email: 26 August 2020
Congrats email: 1 September 2020
FBR certificate received: 19 September 2020

I applied for my passport in September, kicked back for re-using my FBR photos. Re-sent to the Chicago consulate Dec 10th 2020

Online tracking indicates passport application arrived in Ireland 16 March 2021.

Still waiting for the return of my FBR certificate and passport.
I'm glad the FBR office is processing at least a few applications, and am glad you received your FBR certifcate, but yours was processed much faster than mine of firefighters. I assume this is due to the earlier application.

You received your FBR certificate in less than 17 months with the 2 years for the passport. We've had no acknowledgment since receipt of documents 24 months ago, trying to guess if applications have been misplaced or were assigned to teams that aren't returning to FBR any time soon.

Good news to share with all!

I contacted the passport office today to ask about expediting my FBR application due to pregnancy, and I was told by the agent that the FBR office will be reopening fully sometime in September and to expect an exact date announcement on the FBR website on September 1st. 👍
I hope this is true and we'll see what announcements they make, but this announcement and Simon Coveney's goal of getting back to a normal processing period seem unlikely to me.

Passport backlog has increased from 89K to 119K,

If the plan is to clear the passport backlog for actual citizens before reopening the FBR, this looks like the situation is getting delayed more, not accelerated.

Simon Coveney gave some written answers on applications and approvals, which I have combined below. I just see the backlog continuing to grow unless he has an army of trained new processors (e.g. moved once the passport backlog stops growing).

Year Wait Beg Yr New Appl Approved Wait End Yr
2017 5,000
2018 5,000 25,000 -17,500 12,500
2019 12,500 32,000 -18,500 26,000
2020 26,000 16,000 -12,500 29,500
2021 29,500 3,500 -3,000 30,000 estimated from June/July

Up to 2016, approximately 6,000 applications per year, 6 months for typical processing.
I'm guessing there are also some 2021 applications not counted because supporting documents have not been submitted.

If they have never processed 20,000 applications per year, I don't see how they can catch up on 30,000 applications not processed during the covid closures in less than another year or two.

Simon Coveney was getting questions about the FBR backlog from other ministers, so I'm hoping they'll resume official processing and maybe add more people before the end of October.

The forum removes spacing, but the short version is that FBR applications have exceeded their approval capacity for the last few years so the backlog is still increasing. I don't see them catching up in 3-4 months.

In response to other comments, I don't see US applications having priority, I think there are just more US and UK applicants than other countries. If UK applications in reponse to Brexit were filed before covid, I think there are just more US applicants. There is probably minimal urgency for other EU citizens.

They are planning to allocate extra resources to FBR with a focus on getting processing back to pre-COVID levels by the end of 2021.

Well, today has come and gone (at least in terms of Dublin work hours), so I've officially made it into the honorable club of address confirmed 1+ months ago, congratulations pending.

Was really hoping those days were behind us, but I'm going to hold out hope my certificate doesn't arrive when I'm out of town (for 3 weeks in September). That would be nice.

Thank you for this - I do have USPS informed delivery!

Is that how our documents + certificate actually come back to us? I wasn't expecting USPS due to it being international, but I suppose the initial shipment and fulfillment don't have to be the same provider.

I'm not actually sure. I recall someone once saying it came via USPS. I just assume they use their government shipper who turns it over at JFK to the USPS. Anyone who has had their docs delivered should know though. Anyone?
