Erroneous Naturalisation Certificate - am I still a citizen?

Post by unicorntapas » Mon Sep 27, 2021 1:08 pm

Hi all,
Had my citizenship ceremony this morning virtually - just went to pick up my naturalisation certificate and noted that they have printed my name twice:

For example, it is appearing as

*Lee Min Yi* Lee Min Yi

when it should appear as

*Lee* Min Yi

Min Yi = given name
Lee = family name

The name on my foreign passport is Lee Min Yi (not real name)

May I know if I am still a citizen having gone through the ceremony?

Thanks!

If you filled in your application with the names as it should be then it's a mistake by UKVI.
Check here: https://www.gov.uk/get-replacement-citi ... ertificate
The replacement fee is normally £250 but if they made the mistake it should not apply.
Your citizenship is not in doubt - however, for the passport application the name must be as per certificate so needs correcting.

Thanks! Yeah, I checked my forms, I filled it in just as it should

Given names = Min Yi
Surname = Lee

Foreign passport scanned and submitted = Lee Min Yi

My foreign passport does not separate given name and surname hence appear as one name field. I suspect that's where they got it wrong, thinking that Lee Min Yi is a given name and no surname (as with some culture I guess).

What should we include in our cover letter? I read a few posts in this forum saying that their cover letters were instrumental in speeding up action.

Thanks!
