Immigration Health Surcharge + NI Contributions ?

Post by R888 » Thu Oct 07, 2021 4:31 pm

Hey guys,

This is probably obvious but I just wanted to check.
So we paid the IHS back when we applied for my wife's Spouse Visa, and thankfully she found work a month ago. However, I presume it's correct that she would be taxed with NI contributions now ?

Yes, if your wife is working now, she will pay NI contributions in the usual way.

Think of the IHS as an surcharge (an additional charge over and above the normal charge) for the application to be processed, and an immigration cost.

That has nothing to do with NI contributions, which are related to employment.
