Changing employment on Critical Skills (Stamp 1)

Post by alihammad » Wed Nov 10, 2021 10:48 am

Hi folks,

I will have a critical skills employment (Stamp 1) for a duration of 2 years. I know you can't change employers without applying for a new permit (after 12 months), but can you change jobs with the same employer?

Everyone mentions that different SOC numbers require different permits even under the same employer. Is this true?

Someone had experience changing jobs under critical skills visa?

You don't need to get a new permit if your new & old jobs have the same SOC number.

For example if you switch from an IT business analyst to an IT system architect, they have the same SOC number 2135, therefore you don't need to get a new permit.

If you change from business analyst (2135) to software developer (2136), then a new permit is required.

Of course, SOC classification is not absolute. Your job may require you to work in multiple areas (e.g. you can be both a business analyst and a software developer at the same time, especially in smaller companies). As long as your company can justify that your primary role is still the same, you don't need a new permit.
