Hi guys, quick question regarding the witnessing ... I'd rather not risk getting it done wrong. Is it just a case of having them sign the items stating "I certify that this person is this person" Type of thing? Then I assume they just sign and date the application form or something?
I didn't find any specific FBR relevant guidance in relation to the exact wording they would like, so I adopted the guidance from the Passport applicants information;

'certified to be a true copy of the original as seen by me'

Signed
Name
dated
Job title
phone number

I'm not sure how important the date - phone number etc is, but I thought it was worth including

They also complete a small section on the FBR application form + Business Card or Stamp...

Congrats Otto! My evidence was received 30th Jan 2020 so fingers crossed I’ll hear - I imagine - next week. Did you get a phone call for address confirmation?

I found this info: there were 16,000 applications in 2020 and 11,000 in 2021.

Sent off for daughter in December 2020 so suppose I can hope the bulk of the applications were sent early in the year and things might speed up a bit later on.

I hope so. January 2020 seems to have taken an age to process. I think FBR was only open approximately 7 months in 2020 and 1.5 months in 2021 by my back of the beer at calculations. I submitted my application in July 2021 but could only submit docs by Dec 2021 due to the closure. I am really hoping that Dec 2023 isn't how long I need to wait.... However going by the reality of other folks waiting time I think it's highly possible :|

Your position in the queue is based off when your documents are received rather than when the online application is submitted. However, One would hope for the future applicants that they are able to clear the majority of the backlog by end of this year and potentially at some point go back to the 12 - 18 months timeline, rather than 2+ years. I believe when I submitted my application in mid Feb 2020, the timeline was listed as 9 -12 months, then 12 - 18 and then eventually 2 years due to the closures. I'm a few days away from 27 months and ready for this process to be over.

27 months is so long. I feel for you. I know they are going by docs received date and I think my application counting the July application dates will be similar in length to yours. Hopefully you should hear back soon, it must feel good to know you are nearing the front of the queue.

Interestingly the DFA website changed in Feb 2022 to say 12 to 18 months on one part but then quotes 2 years on another!

I noticed that as well, the 12 -18 months. But that website is a mess. On one page it says click here to submit a query to the FBR, when you click it, it takes you to the same old page of the urgent inquiries phone number for pregnant women. Inconsistencies all over that site.

I am hoping I'm close, but who knows, as there's no way to contact them, no any updates from FBR. I was hoping to have the cert by summer, now I'm not so sure. This has taken so long that I'm afraid the cert will be sent when I'm not even at home (as it overlaps with a pretty long vacation we're taking once schools get out).

There's a good chance at this point, I will not be there to sign for the cert when it arrives. Hoping the tracking is good enough that I can have a relative come over on the day and sign for it. We'll see!

Thankyou!! :D

It was a nice informal email. Popped up while I was at work and my heart skipped a beat. I thanked them for all of their hard work and told them I understood the problems that they have with the volume of applications and covid as there was an apology on the email, and they sent another one thanking me for that too.

In looking at the Spreadsheet this morning, 28 months seems to be fairly typical of the current processing time - so at a guess another month until the Feb 2020 club receive emails

I think we can be fairly confident that they are 'mainly' working on the back end of Jan 2020 now, probably the 29/30th Jan

I do worry for the post-lockdown applications, from what I can tell the received dates will be pot luck - hope it works out for everyone

Hello,

Just thought I'd post my timeline:

Documents received in Ireland: January 27 2020
Additional documents required and sent: May 4 2022
Additional documents arrived in Dublin: May 9 2022
Address check: May 13 2022
Confirmation:

The email stated that I should be entered onto the register shortly and if I did not confirm my address within 5 days it will just get sent to the address on file and that I should expect the certificate to be printed and sent within 4 weeks.

The person dealing with my case isn't very prompt with correspondence so I am unsure if I will receive a congrats email but fingers crossed the end is in sight!

Date of docs received: 11/02/2020
Address confirmation: 28/04/2022

i am glad to see some feb 2020 approvals!!! truly cannot believe we are waiting this long. to think i actually believed i would be there almost two christmases ago. well, my fiancé and i are separated until this gets sorted, him being a brit and me being an american. i submitted my app at the end of march 2020 but my documents didn’t get there until may 2020. i’m moving to england in july, which, ages ago we thought we were playing it safe by choosing a date so far in advance; i would already have my irish passport by now so it shouldn’t be an issue-ha! i can be there for six months without a visa so i’m just going to bite the bullet. between covid and the travel bans, the past two years have been so difficult being apart and i’m not going to spend the rest of my year waiting for an office that doesn’t even respond to emails. planning a wedding from abroad hasn’t been the easiest either so our hope is that it will process when i’m over there. fingers crossed! happy for the recent approvals and good luck to the rest of us!

Looks like they’re getting through them - I just got my email confirming I will shortly be accepted as an Irish citizen and to confirm my address hasn’t changed. This was via email.

I’ll update this when I have the certificate in hand and add to the spreadsheet, but my dates so far are:

Date of application: 19/01/2020
Date of docs received: 30/01/2020
Congrats/Address confirmation: 13/05/2022

Good luck everyone!

Hi guys,

Do you think it matters that my Irish grandmother's age on her marriage certificate doesn't quite match her birth certificate because she wasn't sure of her exact DOB when she married my grandfather in the 1950s? She was about 2 years off her actual age.

I have heard this is fairly common. Also her fathers name will be on both birth certificate & marriage certificate.

Congrats Joe! Finally done! Question on the FBR cert, did you have tracking on the delivery? I will almost certainly not be at home during the time they send it, but I have family close by and they could come over and sign for it as long as I know the day it will be delivered.

Sign up for informed delivery on the USPS website with your address ect. Once the package hits the US, it will show up in your packages with the tracking number. You can set it up for alerts on your phone at that time. If you then sign up for electronic signature delivery, they will just leave it in your mailbox without having to be home to sign. (all of this is free BTW)

Thanks, that's great news for me. I'm expecting to hear in the next 4 -6 weeks being a Feb 14 2020 applicant. I'll be out of town from mid June til early August. But I have family near by who can come and pick it up out of the mailbox when it's delivered.

Good luck with the passport stuff now!
