Hi all,
I've just submitted my information to be entered onto the FBR, I've been having a look through this thread and just wanted to double check something. When people say 'documents received on...' do you know this based off of the mail tracking or should I expect an email to say they have been received?
thank you!

It was previously standard to recieve an email of receipt from the FBR department but from recent posts it seems to be more sporadic. And even contacting them to find anything out is a bit of a palaver.

I sent my documents in at the start of the pandemic and never got any form of acknowledgement. I heard that once the FBR staff were sent home due to covid the packages were just stamped with their received dates presumably by some remaining skeleton staff and then set aside unopened ready for when the department got going again. Very disconcerting not to have any form of acknowledgment for my documents sent in over 2 years ago just hoping they have my stuff and I get a call/email soon.

Decided to become an Irish citizen

22/01/2020 - Online application completed and paid
27/01/2020 - Witnessed documents posted
30/01/2020 - Confirmation email documents received by DFA

Now just a waiting game, hopefully before the end of the year!

Thanks
Just an update for all on my application: Just had a phone call from to confirm my address this morning from Team 2. It's taken a while and I admire my optimism of my original post hoping it'd sorted by the end of 2020

Congratulations. Jan 2020 seems like a whole another era now. Bet you didn't think you would have a global pandemic and a war on European soil to contend with when you submitted your application :D

Looks like they’re getting through them - I just got my email confirming I will shortly be accepted as an Irish citizen and to confirm my address hasn’t changed. This was via email.

I’ll update this when I have the certificate in hand and add to the spreadsheet, but my dates so far are:

Date of application: 19/01/2020
Date of docs received: 30/01/2020
Congrats/Address confirmation: 13/05/2022

Good luck everyone!

Seems like we got the same email on 13/05. Curious to know if you have since received a Congrats email? Or shall I just wait for the certificate to arrive through my letter box!

Here’s the opening copy of the only email I have received re my acceptance:

“ Your application for entry into the Irish Foreign Births Register will be approved shortly and a Foreign Birth Registration Certificate and your original documents will be returned to you by registered post, which will require a signature on delivery.”

Does that answer your question?

Hi guys,

Do you think it matters that my Irish grandmother's age on her marriage certificate doesn't quite match her birth certificate because she wasn't sure of her exact DOB when she married my grandfather in the 1950s? She was about 2 years off her actual age.
My grandmother lied about her age when she got married to my grandfather. She made herself nine years younger. It wasn’t questioned and I received my FBR certificate a couple of years ago now.

When your certificate got posted to any of you who have already got your citizenship, did you get a tracking number for the delivery so you knew roughly when it would be arriving?

My passport application was received on 16th March this year. Estimated issue date was 16th May. The tracking page says my documents are being checked but the progress bar seems to have gone backwards since yesterday. So it looks like it’s going rather slowly in the passport office.

For those waiting for their FBR certificate in the UK, mine was just left in my postbox without anyone signing for it (and I don’t recall there being any tracking). I think The Royal Mail is less fastidious since Covid.

Hope this helps

Excellent, congrats. What did you mean by additional paperwork. (Just as a heads up or a reminder to applicants what they may need or may have forgotten)

My birth certificate wasn't an original/ certified copy. Luckily back in 2020 I applied for a replacement birth certificate from the GRO and had that ready just in case, so that was received fairly quickly after they notified me.

It may be different now, but when I got mine In 2018, I had no warning. No email that i was a citizen either.

My maternal grandmother was born in Ireland. My mother was born in England. I would like to get an Irish passport but I was not born in Ireland so not sure how I go about it as the FBR requests FBR for my mother which doesn't seem right as she would have been an Irish Citizen automatically. Any help on how to do this?

You need to read through the FBR information on the DFA website carefully. You definitely do qualify because your grandmother was born in Ireland. Your mother didn't need to apply for FBR because she was automatically an Irish citizen from birth because her mother was born in Ireland.

Go onto the FDA website: https://www.dfa.ie/citizenship/born-abr ... gn-birth/ Open the 'adult applicant' tab and you'll see it contains 5 routes to apply for FBR. Your route is the top one, titled 'adult applicant applying on the basis of an Irish born Grandparent.' and you'll see that this doesn't require an FBR certificate from your parent.

Congrats! When were your documents received?
Sorry SaltEire, I haven't been around for a bit so missed this. Haven't got the certificates yet but had an email today to say they have now been posted with a tracking number. Original 'confirmation of receipt' email was dated 21st January 2020. Hopefully you have had yours now?
