Passport validity

Hi
every one ,

My sons[4yrs old] passport[British] expires in October 2022, but we have planned on July 1st to travel to india.

Is this ok ? or
does it have to be 6 months passport validity ?[holiday planned July 1st to august 14th ]
if so if i get new passport with fast track , how long does OCI updated online?

My response is based on my personal experience.

Travelled in December 2020 upto Feb 2021, on visa while my daughters British passport was supposed to expire in May 2021.
