My experience on Minor OCI applications

Family status:
1) Father: British citizen with an OCI
2) Mother: Indian Passport with ILR
3) Child (1.5 years): British Citizen my birth

Documents uploaded and Physical documents submitted:
1) Child's passport
2) Child's birth certificate
3) Father's passport
4) Father's OCI
5) Father driving license (Address proof)
6) Father's utility for a month (Address proof)
7) Mother's passport (Front and Back)
8) Mother's ILR
9) Marriage certificate (Indian)

Considerations while filling the form online:

1) Photos and thumb signature
- Based on previous experience I prefer to take photos from experts. Thus i have used Snappy Snaps.
- Although VFS is lineant with photos for minors
2) Declaration
- No need to take thumb impression for the child.
- You as parents, both mother and father to sign the section for minor applicants.
- Many people in this forum have confused to take the thumb impression of the child on the form. But its not required.
3) Documents uploaded (first pass before I visited the VFS)
- Child's passport
- Child's birth certificate
- Father's OCI
- Marriage certificate
As for the above documents, there is a clearly mention category for each.

VIsit to VFS Goswell:

1) Appointment at 9.30, a token was provided
2) I was called after 1.30 hrs. Keep 2-3hrs with you for appointment
3) At the entrace they give you self undertaking document
3) VFS lady was nice, looked all the documents
4) She checked physical documents, signatures and validated with whats uploaded on the system. Lady asked to upload the other remaining documents under any category. She said it doesnt matter which category you use to upload the document. And ask to upload the document before the end of the day.

Happy to answer any questions
Question: Do I need to upload anything in the section against the signature of the minor? Parents Signature, Minor Thumb Impression or Leave it Blank?

Don't misconstrue my views for professional immigration advice, just trying to give back to a community that helped me through my journey.

My Timeline for a new OCI registration:

Appointment date: 22 Jun 2022
Appointment location: London
Acknowledgement: 23 Jun 2022
OCI application status as on 24 Jun : UNDER-PROCESS
Passport & Original Surrender Certificate received back: Pending
Processed on: Pending
OCI Cards received: Pending

The VFS Hounslow centre was very busy and usual wait time was over 1.5/2 hours. There were lot of Visa applicants, as the free 30 days eVisa still remains suspended.

I was asked to re upload photo (via the OCI online services page) before 5pm that day (to cover the shoulder length). The daily applications are bundled up and couriered to HCI London after 5 pm, I guess.

Timeline for a new OCI registration

Appointment date: 28 April 2022
Appointment location: Birmingham
Acknowledgement: 29 April 2022
Passport & Original Surrender Certificate received back: 3 May 2022
Processed on: Under-Process
OCI Cards received: NA

It's been over five weeks now and there hasn't been any change in status or update on this. How long others have waited before receiving their OCIs through Birmingham consulate? I am eager to travel to India to see parents after the protracted shutdowns due to pandemic and wondering how much more I should be waiting before contacting the consulate/vfs? And also, if it's right on my part to go for a tourist visa in the meantime in case OCI gets delayed beyond 6 weeks. I would much appreciate any clarifications on this.

Thanks.
Hi

Any update on your application? My application is also with Birmingham. I applied on 31st May.

Thanks

Hi Well done. That was pretty quick.

Our OCI Timelines :

New OCI application: Self, Spouse, Kids
Application Date: 13/05/22
VFS Center: Edinburgh
Date of acknowledgement: 17/05/22
Original docs Received back: 20/05/22
Documents Printing Status: 21/06/22 [ for kids] 22/06/22 [ for adults]
Dispatched from New Delhi: 23/06/22
Documents received at VFS Edinburgh: still pending
OCI Received: ???

I have emailed the consular wing at Edinburgh on 26/06/22 [Sunday]. Got prompt reply on Monday saying usually its takes 5-6 working days from New Delhi to VFS Edinburgh. Then it will be sent to the home address. We are flying to India on 13/07/22. Hopefully will get the OCI cards before then. Fingers crossed.

you dont need birth certificate
in the relationship section, you can upload marriage certificate if you are married. otherwise, you dont need to upload anything in the relationship section

Hi Guys,

Anyone applied under Birmingham jurisdiction and received (not still waiting) OCI recently?

I would like to know the average processing time under this jurisdiction. Is it 6 or 8 weeks or more?

Much appreciated!
Thanks

I have not been in your situation but I would have tried as below.
Are you referring the section where we need to upload the signature in jpeg format? Not sure but if you definitely don't want to lose that appointment then i would have taken Minor applicant's thumb print in Jpeg format in email or pendrive just in case if VFS is happy to change it. In my case she(vfs Goswel) changed the spouse name to match with passport during appointment. She said she will try changing it if system allows.

You can also try filling another application and take copy of that as well. Ask them if they are ok to use this File Reference Number. I am not sure what all vfs is capable of changing during appointment but worth a try.
Also take laptop with you, it could be handy sometimes to make modifications and take printouts.

It took exactly 3 weeks since HCI London received my application and been processed by MEA, India - Standard processing time with my 4th fresh OCI experience
I think I should receive the OCI booklet next week

I think HCI London has the fastest processing times in the UK, especially fresh OCI. I just updated my timeline in another message. It took HCI London exactly 3 weeks from application receipt and OCI being processed. Another week for booklet delivery. So average 4 weeks for fresh OCI. For OCI misc service, its usually 1 week or 10 days.

Hi there,

Did your application processing status change to Despatched my MEA, etc after PROCESSED ?
For me, the status has been PROCESSED for last 1 week.
Emailed HCI and received usual unhelpful reply.
Getting anxious now!

Hi Forum members,
I have my India travel booked , without any further change in OCI status... Feeling nervous now..
Question- Has anyone seen their status stuck as PROCESSED for over a week? And if yes, when did they actually receive their booklet ? Any other way to get this expedited?
