ILR BRP expiring on 31/12/2024

Post by sm12 » Wed Aug 10, 2022 2:07 am

The BRP that was issued after ILR was approved expires in 2024.
How much in advance can we apply for a replacement? What are the waiting times like?

I also read that no BRP may be required after 2024, but then what document do you need to re-enter Britain?

Thank you.

You do not need to apply for a replacement yet. The HO is to roll out a new system of ID or status confirmation electronically. When this is communicated then the populace will know what it is. Therefore no details on waiting times or what not just yet.

Wondering if there will be a way to have proof of ILR that is not just based on electronic checks.

Well we already have a population with digital status only - EU citizens who have EU Settled Status - no BRP, only the email granting status (headed with "does not prove status"!), and access to a web-based service for proof of status (via a share code) for right to work, rent, etc.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
Please do not send me private messages asking for advice.

The home office will roll out the new system by early 2024 so all people who have BRP until the end of 2024 do not need to get a new BRP

Yes. Disastrous, if the computer says ‘no’ or crashes, etc.
