Received my address confirmation email today, which definitely surprised me as I wasn't expecting to hear for some time yet!

Applied online - 20/02/2022
Documents received - 07/03/2022
Address confirmation - 26/01/2023

Can't quite believe they're starting March 2022 applications!

Woke up to the best email! I am a bit surprised with how emotional it made me feel...I'm so grateful to my Grammy for the gift of her lineage and culture. I was a Dec 2020 applicant, with a request for an additional document (I had sent my Mother's proof of death certificate, not the civil death certificate) in mid November 2022....so all told I'm just over two years. Hope the wait for the actual certificate and my documents back isn't too long!

"Congratulations, your application for Irish citizenship through entry on the Foreign Births Register has been successful.

A certificate has now been printed and posted to the address provided by you. Please note that your application will be sent via Registered post and someone will need to be available to sign for the envelope.

Congratulations! I'm applying through a Grandparent too and understand how reading those words would resonate with you. I'm hopeful that I get to read those words and feel those feelings, one day soon. All the best to you.

Thanks to this fourm I’ve been following for years and it’s really helped understand the situation.

Final update:
Application submitted online: 05/19/2021
Documents received at Balbriggan: 03/02/2022 (I waited due to COVID)
Confirmation of address email: 01/27/2022 (Responded with 1 hr)
Congrats email: 01/27/2022 (got confirmed 3hrs after confirming my address)

I will say, the package sent was very “clean”. When they asked for 1 proof of address, we sent 2 notarized copies for example. We tried to make it easy

They said certificates will be mailed in 4 weeks but my understanding is I can apply for the passport even without that in hand?
Yes, the passport application is online. As long as you have confirmation you are added to the FBR, you're fine to apply. It's just your info, uploading a picture and then paying the fee. You can also gather the necessary docs for identity and proof of address. As soon as you get your Cert, you can add it to the docs and send it back off to Ireland.

Seeing someone get an approval in 10 months is great! Especially for those of us who had to wait 2 1/2 years because of Covid. Great news that the processing is back on track to pre covid and pre Brexit wait times.
Congrats!

How are FBR doing

Post by seemcd » Sun Jan 29, 2023 2:12 pm

I have added the info posted by blimeyoreilly(P233 bottom) and reports of address confirmation requests on the spreadsheet to try to work out when mine is due. FBR seem to be doing about 4.5k or more a month.
The small letter month is the actual address email and the capital letter month is a prediction based on approx 4.5k a month. I was in in sept22 so possible may23 - let's see.

Its been a long time coming but finally getting some good news.
I made applications on behalf of my 2 teenage kids. Timeline as follows:

application submitted 8th Sept 2020
application acknowledged 16th Sept 2020
address confirmation 4th Nov 2022
No congratulation email received but after chasing, informed by email on 24th Jan 2023 that their linked applications had been approved on 20th Dec 2022

Then nothing.......so had to go chasing via telephone (dead loss) and then by urgentenquiries email (they responded after 17 days so obviously not that urgent  )

Advised on 24th Jan2023 that my kids applications had been approved on 20th December and were in the queue for certificate printing (to take 4 to 6 weeks). However also advised that Royal Mail UK and Irish post are advising against return of documents just now due to issues around international mail.
So for now, I just wait a little bit longer (but hey its only taken 29th months to get to this date, so lets hope it really is only a few more weeks of waiting..... Wouldn't mind but both grandparents were Irish born and bred, I myself have Irish citizenship and passport and I'd like to think my kids applications were pretty straightforward as we had all the documentation needed.
Lets hope it was worth the wait! (in my most recent mail they advised turnaround time is now 11 months so good luck everyone still waiting)

Hello friends, this is my first time on the forum. I'm seeking information on whether or not I need to provide the marriage certificate for my parents and grandparents.

Based off information I read on the official website (https://www.dfa.ie/citizenship/born-abr ... ign-birth/) and information from this video I watched (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOOR0KQ_pWY) It seems like you only need to include the marriage certificate if there was a name change that caused the names on my birth certificate or my parents birth certificate to be different. Is this correct?

In my case, since I'm submitting my application based upon my Dad and Grandpa's birth certificates, and there was no first name or last name changes, I would not need to submit the marriage certificates?

I recommend to send them since a marriage certificate is an official document that will show the age & name of your parent & the name of your grand fathers that will match the birth certificates of 2 generations of people helping the DFA establish a link between the peoples mentioned.

So, my FBR journey came to an end today with a gentle plop of an envelope through the letterbox. Just shy of 2 1/2 years from start to finish.

For those interested, the certificate is printed on watermarked, decorative paper with a couple of embossed stamps and a laminated photogaph. It also has a harp in the form of a holographic emblem. Not as secure as a paper money or a passport but it looks and feels like an important document. My date of entry on to the register is given as 7th November.

I was very moved to see my dear, departed mother's maiden name on the certificate-wasn't expecting that. She would have been very proud to see her eldest son proclaimed an Irishman.

I'll put up a final post once I've got my passport in hand as there are one or two things about my application that might prove useful for others. Good luck to all of you still waiting.

Online application: 28.08.2020

Hi there! It's exciting to see how fast things are moving along! I applied in late August and had a couple questions:

First, I'm just wondering about the dimensions of the envelope the FBR certificate comes in. Is it folded, regular letter size, or a bigger envelope? The former would fit in my mailbox, the latter would not. I'm wondering because from what I'm hearing, signatures are no longer required, and my apartment is a hot spot for porch pirates, so I'm a little paranoid it would get stolen. ('Tho I guess large envelopes are less likely to be stolen.)

Second, does anyone know if it's possible to pick up their FBR certificate in person? Judging by the current timeline, I will be travelling in Ireland near the time the certificate is ready.

Thanks, and best wishes to you all!

My envelope arrived today (UK), measuring 324x256mm. Just a regular envelope, not hard backed. It contained 2 A4 plastic document sleeves, one containing a congratulations letter and the certificate and the other with my original documents (birth/death certificates, proof of address etc but not my original cover letter or notarised copies of documents). Together the whole thing is quite bendy, certainly our local postman got it through the letter box without damage. The envelope was marked 'Registered Post. Signature Required' but it was just put through the door.

Regarding in person collection, I don't know about that but somone who used to be on this forum visited the DFA in Dublin, I think between Covid lockdowns. Your best bet in that regard is probably to contact the DFA.

I personally having lived in Ireland for 20 years wouldn't personally recommend that..but I would get the FBR cert private couriered to your country as its international. I am sure the DFA can arrange that once they have it printed provided you pay of course.

Thank you !!
There's a spreadsheet where we crowdsource the info posted here so we can all see the progress.
Link is in my signature.

I added entries for:

IdaCanada
Ben-94
tullgor

It looks to me that the time from "congrats email" to "cert received" is rising. I suspect the major bottleneck has moved to printing the FBR cert.
